Welcome to Japan’s “Cat Island,” officially known as Tashirojima. The cats were brought to the island long ago to help deal with a rodent problem. They stayed because of the booming fishing industry. They love kittehs so much on “Cat Island,” that they built a cat shrine in the middle of the island!

Both human and kitteh inhabitants of “Cat Island” survived the recent earthquake and tsunami.

All of us here at Cheezburger send our thoughts and prayers to the people and animals affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. In the video above, a woman returns to her damaged home to find her loyal kitteh friend has survived the disaster. This warms our hearts, and we hope it warms yours, too.

Japan Earthquake Animal Relief is accepting donations to help animals affected by the earthquake.

Who says kittehs don’t work hard?

10-year-old Tama, who has been the stationmaster of Kishi Station in Japan for the past three years, has received a promotion for her hard work. She is now Operating Officer and joins the team of executives at Wakayama Electric Railway Company. The company said that Tama’s promotion was “in recognition of her effort in expanding the railroad’s customer base.” Good work, Tama!
