you can believe, just to hedge your bets, but what if your beliefs turn out to be wrong? it’s really not a question if is there/isn’t there, you also have to take into account how many possible deities there are. you’d need you worship them all to cover your butt, like Benny in the first Mummy movie. better to say “maybe” and live a good, loving life than to throw all your support behind one candidate who may or may not be The One.

I love that believers never realize just how massively patronizing that statement is to nonbelievers - or maybe they do, and it’s just a smarmy way of saying “it’s OK, you poor misguided soul, I know best and eventually you’ll come around to my way of thinking”. consider the possibility that agnostic kitty has carefully reviewed and considered your beliefs, has made an educated decision NOT to believe in any specific faith, and further, resents the paternalism and condescension implicit in your statement.

I am truly sorry to have upset you so, especially on such a lovely place as ICHC.
However you in turn are making assumptions. You are not being patronised by a believer, or indeed at all. Please put down your umbrage, I am unarmed.
As it happens I am agnostic, I don’t know. I doubt. I am unsure. I also doubt that certitude in these matters corresponds with any eternal verities. As such I make every effort to respect the beliefs of others (and am trying to rectify my apparent failure here) because I do not know any different or any better.
However I do have major problems with those who preach “doubt and be damned”, and also that if any supreme being DOES exist any honest attempts to understand will be accepted, as will shades of belief/disbelief/uncertainty. If there is no supreme being - well, so it goes.
You have styled yourself ‘agnostic’ but say you have made a decision not to believe? I am unsure whether you are atheist, agnostic or somewhere in between but in any case hold such belief/disbelief/uncertainty is equally valid.
I do, however firmly believe in ceiling cat, since I have seen pictures of CC’s avatars on ICHC, and if its on the interwebs it must be true.

As it happens, I am an agnostic, in that I do not know, I am uncertain, I doubt. As such I hold all other peoples degree of belief/disbelief/uncertainty in any supreme being as valid, or at least equally invalid.
I do have a problem with the ‘doubt or be damned’ pundits though, as I cannot conceive that certitude correlates with validity of belief. If any supreme being DOES exist I hope and trust that all honest attempts at understanding are accepted. If there is no supreme being - so it goes (RIP Kurt Vonnegut).
However I do know that Ceiling Cat exists, as I have seen photographs of avatars of CC on ICHC, and if it’s on the interwebs it must be true.
