Amen! With all the folks I’ve seen out there driving while putting on makeup, talking on cell phones, texting, speeding, driving way too slow, and a myriad of other distractions affecting their driving, I’M scared of cars!
Very well-said!! Furthermore, I find that drivers following me often honk their horns at me if I am “only” driving the posted speed limit! I just don’t want a speeding ticket! . . . On the occasions when I’ve taken one of my kittehs in a plastic carrier in the car to the vet, I’ve heard such loud meowing I fear my certain arrest for animal cruelty. Poor babies!
Aww poor kitteh has a fwitened, Ai will luffs u kitteh and gibs you toona.

Hai Spotstarsmom! Welcome to teh `funneh farm’!
My older furbaby LUV LUV LUVS to ride in the car! We keep his soft sided carrier close and only use it when we get out of the car, otherwise he has free run of the car. That is the ONLY way he would travel at first, now him luvs it!!!
Mai Keow habs a berry gud voys tew keyp uppa nys sawng az lawng az shiii duz wehn drybyn tew teh V-E-T
When driving from Los Angeles back to St. Louis in 1977 my kitty was a MEOW machine for the first day because this “box” didn’t stop!!, the second day the meows slowed down a lot & tapered off finally, the third day he was a “seasoned” traveller & perfectly comfortable with, the next day he was ready to go out the door & back on the road, he had to accept the fact that we were here to stay, he finally went over the Rainbow Bridge in 1991, he was a good Keow!
Aw, what a nice memory to have of your keow travelling companion! Very touching! Thanks for sharing.
tl;dr
Yor loss, but fanks fur shayrin.
Situation under cat’s control = normal. Situation not under cat’s control = OMG I’M GONIG TU DIY and I’ll TAEK ENNYWUN WIT MEEE! Or crap/pee/barf myself in horrific misery…
Moving with cats taught me something I’d nver known. Cats hyperventilate when really scared. I had one cat, who was usually quite fearless, who absolutely could not stand traveling by car.
That is so true and so hilarious!
My cat used to like travelling when we used to let her out of her basket on the way home. She liked to look out the windows. But we decided it wasn’t safe because she didn’t have a seatbelt.
I think quite a few cats probably just don’t like being confined in a carrier, and wouldn’t mind the car otherwise, although there’s probably an element of ‘leaving my territory!!!’ in it.
i laughed so friggin’ loud just now. too funny…
I laughed so hard, because it’s absolutely true! Unless you’ve trained your cat to ride in a car he/she will automatically equate riding in the car with certain death…or a proctological exam. Oophs! Same thing
We had a kitteh that had been abandoned by its previous owners. It would meow every day when we left… afraid that we might not come back perhaps? So, one day when I went to pick my wife up from the bus, I put the kitteh in the car with me. He was meowing the whole time, but this time it was in joy! He LOVED the car! We even used to go for late night rides just cause we wanted cheezburger and he would come along so he could haz too!
So… the dog thinks the car is a TARDIS?
I’ve had cats who liked to stand up on the seat and look out the [closed] window like a dog, and who liked to ride on the back window shelf like a live version of those bobblehead cats. (Even when going to the vet.) Of course, others absolutely hated it . . .
