      Heya! I’m not one of the regulars on this site, so that makes me just the person to respond to your post.

      I agree that some Cheezpeeps over use the mis-spelling and made up words to the point that their posts are unintelligible to us casual readers. But, there is a community here, and their posts are for each other, so it doesn’t really matter if I understand them. If I can’t read the post, I just skip it. For those Cheezpeeps who want to be more accessible, look at the comments by the Big Cheezes. Not every word is in LOLspeak, and you can read the posts without having to use a code breaker.

      However, complaining about LOLspeak on this particular site is just… Srsly? LOL! LOLspeak is the trademark of this site. It’s a part of its identity and humor and always has been. If you like the LOLcats enough to come here and look at them, you’ll just have to take the LOLspeak with it, because I’m guessing it’s not going away any time soon.

    I too am concerned about abuse in this case. I really hope this a some sort of Photoshop trick but I want to know for sure.

    Please consider the idea that, while it matters whether this cat was actually harmed, it also matters that, even if this IS good photo editing, its inappropriate suggestion that torturing animals (any beings, really) is funny is a huge problem all by itself. If you don’t agree, that’s fine, but consider that much of the target audience for this site includes animal lovers who might strongly agree with me. We are all different. That is OK. This is my opinion. This photo should be removed and investigated.

      I agree with you Jenny Bird. I know a lot of people think it’s funny and go with it but I see it like you do; the suggestion of torture really bothers me, and also bothers me that people find it funny. And as Dee says below, it puts the idea into the head of some moron who would try it.
      It’s definitely not for me, and I do so hope this is photoshop.

    I am hoping this cat wasn’t harmed. I am skeptical of the possibility to lift a 15 lb cat 3 feet off the ground with a bottle rocket. (As the smoke trail depicts) I realize the cat is jumping straight up possibly from being startled. It looks like the cat was photoshopped over a launch pad.

    I hope this photo is a good photoshop job, too, but I doubt it. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen examples of cruelty to animals on Cheezburger. In fact, I submitted an email to Cheezburger over another photo where a cat’s paw was being smushed in between a computer keyboard and a desk (the keyboard was on one of those sliding keyboard drawers) and I just got a “form” email back (see below). I don’t know if this site actually has content moderators but I’m happy to see that Cheezburger viewers are calling them on posting photos that depict cruel treatment of animals. It’s never funny to hurt an innocent animal. Makes me want to boycott the site altogether, which is sad because there are so many other folks posting genuinely sweet and funny photos of their pets. From Cheezburger:

    I came here specifically to see if there was an explanation for that post – read all the cutsie LOLspeak nonsense (and I mean that in a good way – cos I can’t speak LOLspeak – but I enjoy it’s quirky humour). I was beginning to think I was the only one that was worried about that gorgeous cat – so was finally relieved to get to the posts at the bottom that also ask how the shot was put together. Sadly, even if it “is” photoshopped – it will give some other mindless moron an idea to try to recreate it. Hopefully that mindless moron does not visit this page … reassurance that the cat was not harmed would be good though

    Look at the way the shadows are hitting the cat. The main light source for the cat are hitting on the left, while the shadows are on the right side (stomach, underside of his haunches). Now look in the background. See the big building on the right? That shadow on the ground is to the left of it, which means the light source for THAT layer is hitting on the right.

    Two different light sources mean two different pictures, since the background obviously takes place outside. Therefore…it’s photoshopped. Calm down, people.

    Also, a quick google of the cat that was ACTUALLY tortured with a bottle rocket reveals that it’s obviously not the same cat. http://jacksonville.com/news/georgia/2009-01-06/tortured_kitten_dies_in_hospital
