It’s like catnip to them! I never knew tho we had certain kittens that it was impossible to keep out of the tree.
Now I’m picturing a really BIG tree with one of them in it.
Cats, big and small, have a thing for strong, herby, scents – Mint, Lavender, Pine, Peppermint, that sort of thing.
I once made myself a nice relaxing footbath with peppermint and lavender oil in it – and then found my cat drinking it!
Well people do too, except we call it perfume. Hey, the cats are rubbing against it to sent their fur. Kittys want to smell pretty too.
I imagine with the pine needles and spiky branches, this is the most luxurious scratch these cats get all year.

By live animals, you mean mice/rats? No different than feeding a snake. Otherwise, the animals get hunks of meat.
And if you do not mean mice/rats, please back up your assertion with proof.
Perhaps you would suggest tofu and broccoli/carrot salad? Big cats require MEAT. Did you know that in the wild, big cats eat other animals? Guess we should hate them, too.

It’s wonderful to watch them having so much fun. Guess they like the scent, and the scritches those pine needles give them.
