WTF is wrong with people? Your cat is hanging by a cord. There is potential for real injury and I guarantee your cat is hating it and uncomfortable. What do you think the best course of action is? Taking a photo? Seriously?
ICHC, please quit posting pictures of people being irresponsible with their pets. It’s not funny and it just encourages really stupid behavior.
I would be inclined to agree with you but:
1. Look closely at the cords…there is no tension on them, if kitteh were really tangled it’s weight would pull them taut.
2. It appears kitteh is midway through a feline amazing midair twist to land on it’s feet and just happens to be at the level of the cord when the picture was taken.

I am tired of people analyzing bad photos to support a photographer(and I use the term loosely) who had a very bad reaction to his or her Cat in trouble.
Now just for a minute people, imagine you are the one who had this “accident”. There you are suspended, upside down, blood rushing to your head, frantic because the more you wriggle the worse it gets. You are extremely frightened and someone you trust comes in the room and you think “Thank God!” only to watch them leave the room in search of their camera while you suffer longer. Then they finally return and leave you in peril even longer so they can get pictures.Most adults would be furious to be treated that way but when it comes to a pet,”ah who cares! It’s just a Cat.” Seriously I don’t know how anyone can make lighthearted comments about this and claim to be an animal lover.I am especially shocked at ICHC.I have friends who won’t even look at the picture.
This picture was used by ICHC with extremely poor judgement, captioned by many also in poor judgement. If you love all cats you protect them from things like this and at the very least never take,upload, add to the builder or caption any picture that was taken in poor judgement or uploaded in poor taste.

I see what you’re saying. Sometimes it’s better to walk away when people are combative but this particular picture makes it hard to do that. Not the caption. Just the picture. No pet deserves to be treated badly. Too many are. It’s important for people to speak up when when anyone or any pet is being mistreated. It’s wrong, plain and simple.

I disagree with a couple of things you said. No one was looking for the worst, it is obvious.Enlarge the pic and you’ll see for yourself.I did my homework on this.
Dialogue means conversation or chat. That’s what we’re all doing. The only people affected by the dialogue are those who keep coming back to this page to see what people said.Eventually we’ll move on.Some sooner than others.

Thank God the picture of the duct taped Kitty was removed from the builder but did you see it? Completely wrapped in duct tape. Would anyone here speak up about that? What about little Dexter and his brother who a Mother and her two young sons beat with a baseball bat in a park in broad daylight? Would they intervene then? I believe most of us would so where do they draw the line? How can a lesser abuse be okay to them?

You are obviously one of those silly freedom-of-speech American type people who stick up for the wrong people. Defend those who defend those who cant speak for themselves. The only one I was kicking in the ass was the dude who thought WE were morons for squawking about the cat in the bungie cord. Typical human being…. is why I love animals MORE.
Sonja it’s not wrong to stick up for the helpless and abused. I hope more people will learn how to have empathy for the less fortunate. I also hope that a lot of the negative responses are just “talk” and that these people are great pet owners IRL.

I’m also on the ‘not funny’ train. On the news this past week I heard the statistic that the US looses on child a month to getting strangled in window-blind cords. This cat would have probably died had the owners not been there to rescue it. And if they have small children they should definitely rethink those cords.
The cat is not actually hanging from the cords. It just looks like it is.
However, it is true that window-blind cords can cause serious injury or death to animals and children. They should always be wound up or contained near the top of the blind to avoid any problems.
This cat must have been really boinging around, it’s actually an amazing shot this person took.
ICHC has been guilty of posting pictures of inappropriate animal care, and they should be careful of that. This, however, is just a cat pinging off the sofa that happens to look like it was caught in the cord, when in fact it is not.

Cute picture; not so cute situation. Suppose no one was home to see what happened? Cats have hanged themselves on blinder cords. I always kept my cords tied up and out of the reach of my furbabies. Please – you do the same.
The image of this cat caught in the blind cords is not “lol-able” and should be removed from the image files. As catsuberalles said, it may not have been deliberate and/inflicted abuse but the pic being taken instead of immediately helping the cat is just WRONG!
If you have blinds with cords, and pets/small children, you should always, always, ALWAYS install quick release bindings, and NOT tie the cords in to loops.

You can’t really tell if the cat is caught or not, even when enlarged. Huge eyes and bushed out tail could be because it’s caught or because it’s playing so hard it got itself excited. Either way, the title gives the wrong impression and ICHC really needs to consider that the more these type photos show up, the more people are going to put their animals at risk to try and get them posted on the front page. To many people are fame wh&%^s, who will do most anything to get their 15 seconds even if it’s through their cat.
That theory, that people will naturally mimic what they see on TV, is pure bulls**t. Only the sick and brain-addled feel compelled to mimic behaviour like that. Flame me, hate me, I don’t care. I agree with the people that say that this isn’t appropriate for teh Cheezburger. There have been a few so far, and I’m pretty shocked that they’ve been allowed to be posted on the site.
