I had a blind cat when I was younger, and over her lifetime two different dogs used to “herd” her back to safety when they thought she was somewhere dangerous!

My aunt had a cat who did this for her blind dog also. The cat would subtly push the dog away when he was headed to bonk into a chair or table. They also had a pool out back and the cat would keep him from falling into the pool. Amazing to see it in action.
I knows uv a blund/deaf bunny dat has a seein-eye frend! They were both fosters who came in separately, an Noot cud tell dat Chuck helps. He wud nudge Chuck for noms and drinkies, an he wud THUMP when theyr human took the him for eye-washes adn medisins. Wif his help, Chuck started venturing out and exploring more on his own.
Chuck has since passed on, and Noot has a new bunny-friend to play with now.

This story is three years old, cause I read on the interwebz that
Libby is now ten yrs old, and that Cashew has died – expected since she was 14 at the time the story was written. We all know one anxious, happy puppy who is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge, and who will now see and hear her bestest friend for the first time.

not to rain on anyone’s parade, but this is several years old, and the dog has probably passed on by now. that is not to say the story isn’t worth celebrating — it certainly is — but cheezburger network owes those of you with an emotional investment in these kinds of stories a responsibility to tell you all whether a front-page story item is current or several years old.

That kitteh looks like my Cheddar kitteh. He did the same thing for our cocker spaniel, Biscuit, for the last year of Biscuit’s life. Cheddar was only a year old at the time. He would fly all over the house when Biscuit was sleeping and then be calm and controlled when helping our old goggie. We figure it was payback because Cheddar was abandoned by his kitteh mom before he was ready. A family took him and his brother in and their bulldog was “mama” for the kittens until they were ready for homes. Ah, we can all learn so much fromz da animalz.

It’s not so obvious in this pic, but the snow in the background is almost up to the top of the fence…however high that is. But with or w/o snow on the ground, a pup that size prolly wouldn’t have any trouble walking onto a pic-nic table.
Besides, if he’s like a certain dog I know, he was probably up there every chance he got (a.k.a. whenever his humans weren’t looking) when he had his sight! LOL

Old story or not, this is the sweetest thing I’ve ever read.
I have an orange stripey who adopted us as a kitten. When my husband was terminally ill the kitty (fang) would not leave his side no matter what. Just smuggled and purred. My husband called him his guard cat. Fang was so very gentle and calm around him especially since he was about 12 weeks old. Fang would only get up and move if I was sitting right next to my husband then he would run and run, tease the adult cats, ambush everything. As soon as my husband would stir fang stopped playing and went backs to snuggling. I even taught my husband how to “cat fish” with fang.
Love your name. There was a spectacularly bright orange stray mama kitty that I called Lady Marmalade.
My husband chose the name for the kitten. Im not sure why be chose fang it so does not fit his gentleness.
