omg, this is not a pet!!!!! This animal belongs in the jungle or at least in the woods! Of course it wants the shade, it’s a night animal, who is not adjusted to the bright lights!
I totally agree with Hans sentiments. This isn’t cute – this is just taking a wild animal and making it do something un-natural for a few laughs. But you wonder the sort of people that would find this funny. It frankly sickens me.
Agreed! I forget what this particular animal is called but if its not endangered and its well cared for then I see nothing wrong with this. And it doesnt look stressed at all it looks relaxed and just frustrated they keep taking its stick.
so you’d rather put it back in the habitat it’ll be killed off in? lol okaaay.
and i’ve seen the other vids of this guy in different owner’s hands…. the damn thing it perfectly happy.
maybe you should be more interested in the plight of homeless people.. i’m sure you’d be so damned caring when it came to a dirty human being looking for a meal and shelter from the cold.
I agree with ochn.. if it was stressed and annoyed it wouldn’t be sitting around relaxed like that, it would be trying to escape.. you people have no brains honestly, Why don’t you worry about the animals that are really being abused. KTHANXBAI.
its us that is making these animals endangered in the first place with importing and exporting them illegally for, you guessed it, PETS! They get ill or killed along the way because they are not properly looked after.
not just pets Animal Carer…the food you eat (Even if you aren’t a meat eater, farming land has to expand), the house you live in, the paper you use daily…everything we do shrinks their habitat and makes them endangered, there’s no way to actually stop it right now.
I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw this video……this poor animal is not a toy nor does it belong out of its natural habitat. Shame on whomever it is in this video!!!
poor critter looks sleepy, doesn’t seem fair to be doing that to it, it wants to be sleepin not being teased. dunno if I agree that it shouldn’t be a pet (sugar gliders are good pets and they are nocturnal sleepy critters) I do however agree that responsible care includes not interrupting it’s natural sleep cycle to torment it, I’d be grumpy too if someone did that to me while I was sleeping.
No it shouldn’t be a pet. It actually has a poisonous bite and that is why they pull its teeth out so they can sell them. They are endangered and it is illegal to own or sell them. As we know tho if it is ‘cute’ and therefore wanted by people there will be a market for them.
Should the video be pulled? I’m sitting on the fence. Someone will see this, read the comments and learn from it and maybe pass on the knowledge to help protect them. The last lorus video went viral without any comments.
Completely agree with you PancakeMomm. This is the kind of video that various worldwide wildlife rescuers find appalling. That poor animal should be in its natural habitat and not in some awful ‘pet shop’ making money for its owners. Didn’t like what I saw at all.
This site is displaying ever increasing numbers of photos and videos of treatment to animals that is just plain wrong. What saddens me most is that people enjoy it. I don’t think I’ll be visiting anymore.
“Oh, I’ll just stop visiting since I don’t like what I’m seeing”. Yeah, because that will make it stop, right?
How about if you don’t like something, speak up about it?! There’s a link right under the pics/vids that says “Incorrect source or offensive?”. If you click on it, you can send the site owners/mods an email and maybe try letting them know WHY it’s offensive so they can determine if it needs to be removed?
I agree with Ian and Kathryn, this is not funny, this is abuse. Lori’s are nocturnal animals, that’s why their eyes are so big. The light plain hurts!
Wish you wouldn’t show these sort of pictures anymore, you always get selfish people wanting them as pets.
you shouldn’t get upset at other people calling this cute. out of context, which it is because none of us have ANY context regarding this clip, it’s friggin cute! it’s a very cute animal doing kind of human things things with it’s cute little hands. that’s what people normally define as cute. it’s cute when otters do it right? so you can’t blame people for calling this cute. especially, like i said, when there is absolutely no context for this video. for all any of us know the person holding it rescued it from someone who WAS actually abusing it. i mean there’s abuse and there’s abuse. it’s not like they were beating the poor thing. let’s keep things in perspective here folks.
No. Keeping a Loris awake in such bright conditions is the very definition of torture for it. You try having eyes that cover about 2/3 of your head and being forced to keep them open in bright light.
And saying that forcing an organism to stay awake when it’s exhausted isn’t torture is just shortsighted on your part, as it’s one of the most used methods of torture utilized by the CIA and other agencies.
Sure, they weren’t beating it, but it’s a wild animal, not an adowable fluffykins toy. And in addition, humans are the mimics, not other animals. Prehensile hands were in use waaaaayyyyyy before we came along. I’m pretty sure you’re the one who needs perspective. And a little education.
Do those of you posting goofy comments not get that this isn’t cute at all? The wild populations of the Slow Loris are threatened. This is a tropical animal performing for someone speaking Russian. Sick.
good grief. again, this video is out of context. it’s one tiny little clip. it’s not a video of the poor little guys teeth being ripped out or it being mistreated in any way. this particular clip is of this little animal being as cute as cute can be. if you want to educate people of the plight of this animal you are going about it the wrong way.
The Slow Loris facing extinction due to demand in the pet trade, and has become one of the most popular primate species on sale in Indonesian, and in other less regulated, pet markets.
Teeth are ripped out by untrained vendors and hunters, and because the loris is so fragile – the jaw bones are often broken in the process, and/or they get horribly painful infections in the gums and jaw . And then they are either sold on to the unsuspecting, where the Loris dies in their new owners possession, unable to eat (but the vendor and hunter have already made their money so they don’t give a damn), or killed as unsellable.
They are usually taken from their freshly killed parents as babies. If my source is correct, they are not good breeders in captivity; hence the kidnapping of them. Poor little creatures. They are undoubtedly gorgeous but they should be admired from afar. They suffer depression under human raising too.
Prairie dogs are another viral-video animal that is kidnapped from its home as babies… sucked out of their hidey-holes with a vacuum-like device. Adopt your pets from shelters!
Oh wow, I sound like such a hippie; when did this happen to me??!
Another strong vote for removing this video and not posting any others that show animals that should not be pets. This is promoting animal abuse by saying “Look, it’s cute, it’s funny, who cares if the animal is miserable or if a dozen others died on the way to the pet store!”
I agree with Cry. How do we know this Loris isn’t a rescue animal? Maybe it was saved from an abusive owner or one who didn’t want it anymore. I agree that wild animals belong in the wild, but there could be a reason why this Loris is in captivity. True, it should be sleeping during the day, but it really didn’t seem to be in much distress. I think if it was truly upset, it would be trying to bite or get away. That being said – it was a really cute video.
I believe this must be a rescue animal – he has a bandage around his middle and there are veterinary cases in the background. Granted the techs or vets shoul.d not have “exploited” the little guy to video him, but abuse, probably not…
not funny, not cute. this is just sad and those of you who think it is funny or cute make me sick. wild animals are to be treasured and should not be used for entertainment.
I have to agree I am not comfortable with this video.
I am the first to laugh, smile or simply want to cuddle a cute video but I am also responsible enough to know when something is wrong.
This is wrong. The animal is not happy or comfortable….therefore we should not be viewing it as cute. Remove it please. I do not think animals who are being exploited have a place here. Unless of course……you don’t care.
I agree, Susie B…and I feel bad for the poor little slow Loris, who is very endangered in the wild. This animal is adorable, but not a clown.
(Think Wise Guys…Do I amuse you?)
I agree with most of you – get this video off the site, animal cruelty is never entertaining nor should it be acceptable for civilised society. Just wish there was a follow-up video where a rescuer came in and took her away from that hell hole. Very sad indeed.
And this video was clearly taken in another country, where they do not care about international animal-protection laws. Cheezburger, please take this down!
erg, if you think that is funny I’m sorry for you.
The Loris is out of context, but clearly in the wrong environment. I’m about to tell the site-owners that. There are often things on here that I don’t like; and also things in the world I don’t like, but it’s no good not looking. you have to act
All baby animals are cute. And I can understand why this site would post them. But… really? When I signed on, it was for cute cat videos. Now, it seems every week someone is showing animals that should never have been made into pets, such as fennec foxes, porcupines and prairie dogs.
Could this be an opportunity to educate people on the fact that this (really adorable) animal should not be a pet? Cheezburger, please make it clear that you do not support trade in exotic animals, no matter how cute they are, and be cautious about when and how you post videos like this. Wild animals being adorable in the wild or in rescue and rehab (when we know they’re in the responsible care of professionals) is one thing, but it’s important to make it clear where we stand on the irresponsible treatment of critters of all kinds.
this makes me has a sad. little Loris is made to live in trees. better to help them survive in the wild by contributing to the charity of your choice that defends and protects wild environments.
the little loris is adorable…no doubt about that.
let’s love him the right way: by protecting him and his families at thier forest homes.
I am one of the first people to agree that videos showing endangered and exotic animals as pets and being mishandled should be taken down.
But….on this particular video, I’m actually voting that we should keep this up, if only for the message that others are bringing.
When I first clicked the video and went “aww, how cute!”, I honestly had no idea what a Loris was. So I googled it, and looked up the species. I learned that they’re in varying stages of endangerment, and how they are treated in the illegal exotic pet trade.
While my first instinct was as usual “AWW, HOW CUTE, I WANT ONE TO CUDDLEWUDDLE!” – reading about the species and the comments made me realize the danger this cute creature is in.
I think the video should be left up. If the comments and video are taken down, other people might not see and realize that while it’s certainly a cute animal, it’s not one that’s made to be a pet like in the video.
I feel Blackbyrde said it perfectly. Leave the video up, but Cheezburger could possibly put up a note saying that it does not condone endangered animals as pets.
Agreed. I’ve learned a lot in these comments (had no idea about the teeth pulling!) and it’s certainly made me more aware. I also agree that we don’t have enough information about what’s going on here and that doesn’t help. But on the whole, making it very clear that this is an example of what NOT to do would make a world of difference.
I can’t believe this video is still up, even though many people have pointed out the the Slow Loris is endangered, that the trade in these animals is cruel. A cursory search will confirm. Here is one reliable source:
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/sci/tech/6731631.stm
Even if you believe this particular animal was rescued (rly?) videos like this encourage the illegal and destructive trade in wild animals. I used to love this site and thought it was for people who love animals – especially cats. WTF has happened? Pls remove this video!!!
Right, because that’s going to make it stop… You think they read or care about these comments? No, they only mod to keep the bad words out (may not even be done by humans, but by filters).
ATTENTION! TO EVERYONE COMPLAINING ABOUT ANIMAL ABUSE:
There’s a link right under the pics/vids that says “Incorrect source or offensive?”. If you click on it, you can send the site owners/mods an email and maybe try letting them know WHY it’s offensive so they can determine if it needs to be removed?
Also, have you heard the saying “don’t cry over spilled milk”? If we’re all here watching the video, that means that any actions (abuse or not) have ALREADY HAPPENED. It’s too late, you can’t do anything about it. So calm down and stop your “OMG, I’m not coming here anymore, wah, wah, wah”, because that is going to have zero effect. You want things removed? Use the tools provided, don’t just complain.
Everyone… shut the hell up! Take the sticks from out of your asses… and look at the damn loris! It’s cute, it’s funny… The owner is NOT abusing it in any way. It’s holding a damn drink umbrella in a cute, adorable fashion… deal with it!
Hey, you can abuse ANYTHING and still manage to get some segment of the tape so it looks “cute” and “funny.” Sometimes thinking further may be helpful.
S A Gould: maybe you should take your own advice. Perhaps the person with the loris is it’s caretaker and it’s being taken care of perfectly fine. How could YOU possibly know? Do you know that person with the loris personally? Yeah, didnt think so! WAH WAH WAH. Sounds like everyone needs to put their diaper back on. Now im gonna share this video on Facebook cuz its SO FREAKIN CUTE!!! HAHA
please do not buy these! the people who sell these have to pull their teeth out because their bite can cause allergic reactions. this causes the loris to get an infection and eventually die. because of this they are now endangered.
Oh, come on people… stop raining on everyone’s parade. It’s just a video. Honestly, how many people do you believe are going to go out and buy one of these animals? Most people don’t even know where they come from. These videos bring pleasure to many human “animals” and just because you say something is wrong doesn’t make it so. Your priorities are all screwed up.
Allupinya! I don’t have to know the person with the loris, or even the mr. loris personally. I am against PERCEIVED cruelty or wrongs.
For instance, if I were to see YOU at a public event, surrounded by people who were, say laughing and poking you with a stick, I would perceive that as wrong, or, at least as something that MIGHT deserve further action.
EVEN IF everyone at the scene was laughing and joking and saying “Move along, there’s nothing to see here” or, “It’s none of your business.”
EVEN THOUGH you have probably have a voice and the ability to text for help, an option most animals do not have.

I agree; he’s squinting, or else very sleepy.

Not to mention they’re endangered.
Shouldn’t be showing these videos & encouraging this illegal trade.

agree, i hate the way this person handles the poor animal. it belongs in the wild. people are getting dumber by the minute.
I guess they can cope with the light, but they commit suicide when kept as a pet. Don’t believe it? Google it!
I’m thinking it’s about time this site stopped allowing pictures and videos of endangered species being used as accessories by spoilt humans.

This isn’t cute at all. Slow loris are an endangered species that usually have their teeth ripped out of their heads when they are sold as pets.
If anything this is absolutely disgusting.
Most usually die in captivity, due to infecting after having their teeth ripped out of their heads with pliers.
Please remove this video as to not encourage others to want them as pets.
I agree Ian. I’m normally a “let’s have fun” type of person, but I cannot find any mirth in the illegal trade of endangered species.
poor critter looks sleepy, doesn’t seem fair to be doing that to it, it wants to be sleepin not being teased. dunno if I agree that it shouldn’t be a pet (sugar gliders are good pets and they are nocturnal sleepy critters) I do however agree that responsible care includes not interrupting it’s natural sleep cycle to torment it, I’d be grumpy too if someone did that to me while I was sleeping.

Thank you for posting this comment, pancakemomm.
I want to have a family of lorises (lorii?) living in my backyard where I can come and give them bananas and such.
Lores, possibly?
This site is displaying ever increasing numbers of photos and videos of treatment to animals that is just plain wrong. What saddens me most is that people enjoy it. I don’t think I’ll be visiting anymore.
I agree that photos of abused animals are increasing and a lot of people on this site seem to be oblivious.
Wow making an animal hold a tiny toothpick umbrella is abuse? I can’t imagine what putting a dog in a sweater is!
“Oh, I’ll just stop visiting since I don’t like what I’m seeing”. Yeah, because that will make it stop, right?
How about if you don’t like something, speak up about it?! There’s a link right under the pics/vids that says “Incorrect source or offensive?”. I agree with Ian and Kathryn, this is not funny, this is abuse. Lori’s are nocturnal animals, that’s why their eyes are so big. The light plain hurts!
Wish you wouldn’t show these sort of pictures anymore, you always get selfish people wanting them as pets.
I get the feeling this poor animal gets abused for the amusement of it’s “owner”
This is abuse, not funny, not entertaining, would like to think this site was above that.

I agree with Cry. How do we know this Loris isn’t a rescue animal? Maybe it was saved from an abusive owner or one who didn’t want it anymore. Obvious fail here.

REMOVE THIS!!! It’s a disgrace! Takes the fun out of LOLCATS. Was the second page I watched and enough for the rest of the month. KTHNXBAi
because of this network’s inaction, I’ve removed all my CB RSS feeds from my reader.
EVEN THOUGH you have probably have a voice and the ability to text for help, an option most animals do not have.
they were saying “hug the umbrella” in russian
