If you’ve ever wondered how it works when cats lap liquid, then you’ll be glad to know some scientists have also wondered the same thing and now have answers. If you’ve never wondered how it works, then, well, you know now, anyway.
The long and short of it is: Cats use their tongues to draw the water up and into their mouths without breaking the surface of the liquid. This differs from dogs, who scoop water into their mouths with their tongues (which explains why the process for dogs is typically a bit messier).
The awesome video above shows some super-sweet slow-mo action of a cat lapping up some milk. Check it out. And the next time your kitteh goes for a drink, now you’ll know how it all works.
