This is not a Lolcat. I don’t find it funny, it is a disgrace to allow a pet to get that obese.

    • Alixandria says:

Agree, but caption would be funny if kitty was only chubby.

    • Jen says:

I agree. Sorry but it’s not really funny to see a cat that obese. The owners are (though perhaps unintentionally) being negligent and cruel. We are all aware that starving a cat results in organ damage and potentially death. Well, making a cat grossly obese does exactly the same thing. That poor kitty is going to die long before it should, probably from congestive heart failure, and that is a terrible way for an animal to go. They can’t breathe. I know because we had a normal size cat who had had a heart problem and when he started having heart failure, we had to rush him to the vet because he couldn’t breathe. It’s not good. They should do the right thing and gradually get his weight down.

    • jen says:

i agree that i can’t believe an ‘owner’ would allow their pet to get this big…very unhealthy…poor kitty :>(

    • Jeff says:

While it is distinctly possible that this cat suffers from an unhealthy upbringing, it would be wrong to get self-righteous about it without knowing the cat’s medical background.

My cat is 19 pounds. Hers is because of a thyroid condition. I feed her actually LESS than what the veterinarian suggested as a “diet” and she simply doesn’t lose the weight.

So before you get high-and-mighty about a picture, know your facts first? Please? I had some jerk of a city official threaten to take my cat away because she thought I was rearing it unhealthy. She never ONCE asked if the cat has any medical condition for why it should be so heavy.

I told her to get off of my property and if she ever came back with the intention of taking my cat away, she had better have a warrant and be packing a gun.

I never saw her again, nor did I ever hear anything more about it.

Here it is now, several years later, and my cat is still just as heavy as she’s always been – no heavier, no lighter, and very, very happy.

      • iluvchocolate says:

Whether obesity is caused by improper feeding or thyroid condition, either way, it is treatable, and someone not treating a cat for a thyroid condition is just as liable as someone who overfeeds and underexercises their cat. And with either scenario, the cat’s internal organs and external hygeine suffer the same. There are medical treatments for a thyroid condition, and it is easy and is usually relatively inexpensive. A simple dose of synthetic thyroid hormone administered on a daily or weekly basis reduces the cat’s weight to normal or close to normal. If that does not work, then it’s not the thyroid, and there is something else wrong. Having dealt with endocrine problems in both cats and humans, I am well aware of the issues that can cause this level of obesity, and there is no reason not to treat it. Kthxbai

        • Jeff says:

My cat’s is not treatable. This comes from a veterinarian. And it is also possible that this particular cat was RESCUED by someone and is in the process of being treated. Either way, the haughty, self-righteous, high-and-mighty attitudes of some people on seeing a single photograph without understanding anything about it is ludicrous at best. Kthxbai.

          • iluvchocolate says:

You’ve made my point quite nicely. It’s POSSIBLE that this cat is the President’s third cousin’s pet, but we don’t know. We only have a picture of a cat, and our own feelings about the matter. Since when is this a site where we are not allowed to say what we think? If you have the right to say what you think about it, so do I. None of us are in the wrong here. Not you, the daily troll, nor me, nor anyone who has commented on this thread. Stating the obvious, the cat is way too fat, and hoping that someone is helping the poor thing with hygiene and correcting the issue is not being self-righteous. It is stating fact and expressing our concern. I’m sorry your cat’s thyroid condition is untreatable, but 19 lbs while heavy is not unheard of, is even common for larger breeds, such as Maine Coon. This poor cat is probably nearly twice that, if it wasn’t photoshopped. Now stop being so oversensitive and thinking that our concern for this cat is in any way shape or form a denouncement of YOU and your cat. Kthxbai.

            • Lizzycritternurse says:

A few points on your kitteh Jeff. While hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) is common in dogs, it’s EXTREMELY rare in cats. Cats usually go the other way-hyperthyroid and way too thin despite eating a ton. In either case, IMO a vet that tells you something is untreatable, especially something fairly simple to treat like hypothyroidism, is not a good vet and you should seek a second opinion. There’s a lot of vets out there that don’t know as much about cats as they should. A condition may be too expensive to treat, or may require a specialist to treat, but “untreatable” especially without a workup or second opinion is not an acceptable diagnosis IMO. I’m a licensed veterinary technician with a strong personal opinion, take it or leave it. It is extremely difficult to get a cat to lose weight, it happens very slowly and going too fast can put these guys into hepatic lipidosis, their liver gets overwhelmed by the fat being released when these kittehs don’t eat and it shuts down.

          • Sonata says:

Oh, I highly doubt the owner is treating this cat. No sane person would post this on a “funny” site.

      • nana says:

I also had a tubby cat who only lost a little weight after we put her on the special premium weight loss -$$$ food. She did not have a thyroid problem or any other health problems. She was completely normal weight-wise UNTIL we got her spayed at 9 months old. Then she began snarfing the crunchies!! We had another kitty who got spayed at 8 weeks old and the same thing happened to her! Luckily they did not get more than a few pounds overweight because obesity can cause serious problems, including diabetes!!!

    • Blackpaw says:

Agreed, but I suspect thats a photoshop, proportions and position don’t look right for a real obese cat.

    • Liou says:

Totally agreed :( not enough to corrupt whole consumer society with “food”, we’re even making our pets obese. Who’s teh idiit who invntd hoominz.

  13. Jennifer Bruce says:

This is not funny. I would have you charged with cruelty to animals. How can this cat live a normal life.

    • Jeff says:

Know your facts first? Please? How do you know, from this picture alone, that this cat doesn’t have some kind of a medical condition? There are many that can affect the weight of a cat, such as a thyroid condition, which is what my own cat has – she is obese, but there isn’t anything that can be done about it, and I keep her as healthy and hale as I am able.

As the saying goes – don’t judge a book by its cover.

  17. Roller Cat says:

I’m sorry, but I can’t see a picture like this and not speak out. What is wrong with people today? Don’t they understand simple facts? Ignorance is no longer an excuse. I might… MIGHT… forgive this behaviour as well-meaning but misdirected a generation or two ago, but in the internet age it is totally unforgivable.

I don’t think we should laugh, it simply encourages the irresponsible behavior. People need to learn that this is simply not natural. And don’t talk to me of diseases — there’s only one disease that can excuse this abomination and that’s colour blindness.

WHY WHY WHY would ANYONE have a green carpet?

  18. Kay says:

It should be considered animal abuse to allow a pet to be this obese.

    • Jeff says:

There are many animals who are obese, and for some of these, there is nothing that they can do about it. It’s called a thyroid condition, and despite what one person has stated above, they’re not all treatable. My cat’s isn’t treatable. I know people who have this same condition. In fact, I went to school with one of them and she was a very nice girl who ate like a bird (and ate food that was good for her as well) but could never lose the weight.

Whether this cat has such a condition is not known FROM A SINGLE PHOTOGRAPH OF THE CAT WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING MORE ABOUT THE SITUATION.

Further, how do we know that this cat isn’t a rescue from someone who DID abuse it and is now being properly cared for but hasn’t yet dropped the weight?

Just some “food” for thought here.

  19. Gamin Davis says:

    1. What does “color-blindness” have to do with having an overweight cat?

    2. Maybe they *like* green carpets?

  20. kindafar says:

    isn’t this animal cruelty ?

    • Jeff says:

How do you know it’s not a picture of a cat someone had rescued and is now treating the cat? How do you know it’s not a cat with a medical condition? You don’t, so no…it’s not animal cruelty. It’s a picture of an obese cat.

      • Sturm.Fee says:

        blah blah blah!

We all know by now that YOU have a fat cat that you are too avaricious to get the right medicines for.

What are you wanting to say? That EVERY fat cat has a medical condition and we shouldn’t be so narrowminded about it?

We do not know if it is a picture of someone rescueing the cat, we do not know if it has a medical condition. We just have the eyes to see a fat cat on the photograph and say: ” I do not approve, the cat is unhealthy and nothing worth laughing about.” Or do you laugh at fat people as well?
No one says its not a loveable and nice kitty. No one says fat cats are ugly, no one says it’s the cats fault. A human got it that fat. Simple as it is.

How many obese PEOPLE do you see, Jeff? And with how much of them are you saying: “It’s alright, he might has a medical condition and it is NO WAY his fault.”?

There is a lot that can get the cat like this. But letting it stay like this and approving this will cause the cat damage. Diabeetus, joint damage, hygene and cardiovascular problems….. and so on.

You needn’t repeat yourself all 10 posts. kthxbai.

        • Jeff says:

“We all know by now that YOU have a fat cat that you are too avaricious to get the right medicines for.”

Get this through your thick skull:

          MY
          CAT’S
          CONDITION
          IS
          NOT
          TREATABLE

There – do you understand now?

Also, I went to school with a very nice girl who was severely obese and it was also a NON-TREATABLE THYROID CONDITION.

She ate all the right things that were recommended to her and there were NO MEDICINES TO TAKE.

Because of PEOPLE LIKE YOU, she took her own life prior to graduating high school.

          Kthxbai.

          • Jesca says:

While I agree that people should not judge a book by its cover, I do want to point one thing out; people do not commit suicide because of other people. They kill themselves because of an underlying problem with their ability to cope, whether through a chemical imbalance or something similar. There are plenty of people out there who are made fun of, ridiculed and abused who rise above it and move on with life. While I am not condoning these horrible heartless people and their actions, a mentally healthy person does not kill themselves because of another person. There is a fine line.

This is coming from someone who has a facial defect that made me the butt of many a jokes and even beat up once. Never once did I think about killing myself….THEM maybe, but not myself :p (j/king)

Anyways, we get the point about your cat. Very sad. But please chill. People can say what they want, don’t let them get to you :) It’s clear you <3 your kitty and that is all that matters :)

          • Luciferica says:

It is really uncalled for to accuse this man of not buying his kitty meds or getting it help, at least his cat has seen a vet, quite a few people screaming bloody murder on here have cats that don’t get wormed regularly, much less see a vet. Maybe his vet really can’t treat the condition, I have a horse that has joint problems, he is an older horse and a rescue, I do all I can for him but he still has leg issues, it’s not treatable, Adaquine wouldn’t even help him, he is what he is and I work around it by doing whatever can be done for him, maybe Jeff’s cat is the same way, not everybody has huge money to throw at their pets either, maybe a cat specialist could help this man’s cat, but are YOU going to help cough up the money to pay for it? Could YOU withstand scrutiny if someone judged everything you do with you pets?
That said, yes the kitty is overweight, but the picture is likely a photo-shop, has anyone done any research on this picture? Maybe puss, if he is real already had leg problems and can’t get around to exercise proper, maybe it is a health issue, or maybe some ass is trying for a world record for fattest cat and needs to be smacked, but it would be nice if people had facts before making condemnations. I saw a picture of penguins dressed up on this site earlier, why don’t you go find them and say how abused they are because we are forcing our human clothes on them..Find something to do other than fuss at this guy about his cat, it’s obviously a touchy subject for him..Geeze. Also, people do make people kill themselves, just because you could cope doesn’t mean anything, if a person has no support system at home, no friends and only constant ridicule, it pushes even a bright person to a dark place, I bet your family is supportive and you have friends to turn to, but not everyone is that lucky, you could fight back, maybe that girl was conditioned not to, unless you are in a dark place and want to die and have nobody to help you out of that hell , you have no right to justify people’s cruelty, walk a mile in her shoes before you shrug it off as “all well, another suicide, OMG poor kitty cat” ..Geeze..

            • Jesca says:

Dude I’m not gonna get into the psych debate with you. Unless you have a masters in it (I do) don’t get into it. There are plenty of cases out there where people had no one and were still able to cope. And no, I don’t have siblings. I’ve had to fight through everything I’ve been through…I have a defect, was raped when I was 13, and went through PPD with my first child. So yea…I’ve walked that ling mile and I KNOW it takes coping skills to make it through. No one else did it for me. -_- “OMG I feel so bad” only goes so far. It’s nice, but in the end, you only have yourself.

        • Patrick says:

Nor does every other person commenting need to say the same thing. Yes, perhaps he does need to repeat himself since people (like you!) aren’t getting the message.

  21. sarah says:

    just plain cruel.

  22. Wombat says:

I have some close friends who adopted a morbidly obese cat who has a condition. He eats special low-fat food, and very little of it, and he’s shaved off almost no weight.

I feel really sorry for him. Because of his condition, he isn’t going to like 15+ years anyway. Extreme obesity cuts lifespan down, but a lot of cats suffering aren’t going to live to be old enough for that to matter.

What I do know is that the cat is always hungry and always begging for food. It’s really pitiful. Whenever the humans eat, he’s begging and crying for food, but his owners are trying to ‘take care’ of him by keeping him on a diet that makes him unhappy.

I would argue quality of life the other way, honestly.

  23. coyoteman says:

“Yes, I did win the Powerball lottery. Why do you ask?”

  24. Lunchb0x says:

    Its a pillow, it’s a pet. It’s a pillow pet!!!!

  25. mary says:

Shame on you. How could you allow a pet to become so obese (s)he can’t move?? Go get a book on cat care- there is nothing funny about any of this. This is were I draw the line on using animals for entertainment… is there no one out there with a conscience?

  26. The Little Myrmidon says:

I don’t like seeing overweight cats, whatever the reason.

  27. geewhiz says:

I too think that is is shameless. That poor poor cat, there is NO reason to have any animal this obese. If you think that is a happy cat, you must be really stupid. You’re probably obese too. Be that as it may, you should not be allowed to keep pets ever again. Shame, shame, shame.

  28. moi says:

poor, fat kitty. I hope he loses the weight……… It makes me sad to see a cat like this.

  29. Robert says:

“Bring Solo and the Wookiee to me!”

  30. JD Ehrlich says:

Dis ain’t funny! DIS IS CAT ABUSE.

  31. Irene says:

That is so sad. The owners should be ashamed.

  32. Daphne Moss says:

Getting progressively more abusive and using capital letters to “shout” is not persuasive.

  33. kidlids says:

okz when I first saw dis picterz i thot it wuz klip art, oar some picter messer upper or wat eber. now i no dat iz reel and it’s one more reason i wunt 2 b a veterinarian when i’m out of college. i agree wif jen. plus the fact dat hoomans DNA and amimal’s DNA are 2% diffferense . so i am really ticked at those owners for mis feeding their kitteh. he’s probobly sad and stressed because he’s just miserable because he cant probably get up and run around like other cats can.so, poor kitteh >I):

  34. LulaSama says:

¡¡¡Maten al dueño!!! pobre, gatito, de seguro ni puede caminar

  35. Kindafar says:

Sorry “JEFF”…you seem to be massively over-ruled on this one…THAT is animal cruelty ! I’m 56 years old, have lived in the city and the country…I have NEVER seen a cat that FAT in the wild…nor will you. Stuupid hoomins did that !!

  36. wendy says:

I feel an urge to kick these kitty-owners in the ass. Hard.

  37. Sonata says:

Whoever owns this cat should be shot!! What is wrong with you for feeding this poor cat so much!! I pity the cat….and the owner she got.

  38. Sonata says:

How can we report this person, readers?? Please help this poor cat!!

  39. Gamin Davis says:

Sonata: scroll down to the bottom of the page–there’s a “contact us” link; I’ve used it, and one of 3 site maintainers responds themselves (no auto-reply stuff except a short post to tell you this much) and they’re quite efficient. Maybe we can get some indication of whether this kitteh is Photoshopped or not, and maybe they’ll delete it! (If he is, some people are going to feel rather foolish here, IMO.) Has anybody tried to contact the person who made this LOL, or the one who posted the picture? One of them ought to be able to tell us if this is a real overweight kitteh or not.

Either way, I think the case can be made that it shouldn’t be turned into a public source of “humor”. Chubby kittehs might be cute. Morbidly obese kittehs are another matter entirely. But I would want to know the real story on this before I started judging the owner’s idea of cat care or anything else.

  40. Gamin Davis says:

P.S. Roller cat–No, I’m not a “troll”, nor am I “winding you up”, I’m asking two seriously-intended questions which you seem unwilling or unable to answer. You are the one who made 2 apparently non-sequitor statements that I am trying to make sense of.

    THIS is what you said:

[there’s only one disease that can excuse this abomination and that’s colour blindness.]

And I repeat: we were discussing overweight kittehs. What does “color-blindness” have to do with it?

    And this:

[WHY WHY WHY would ANYONE have a green carpet?]

Again, what does a green carpet have to do with anything, and what’s so unbelievable about having one? THIS is what I’m responding to.
