After much deliberation I have come to the conclusion that parrots are, indeed, cute.

It’s easy enough to train the parrot not to get on the counter: just chase it off every time it lands there. It’ll learn quite quickly. We have a free-flighted parrot who knows not to fly into the kitchen, no matter how much it sounds like food in there. He is allowed in there if he’s on a shoulder, but he may not fly in there on his own, not even to land on a shoulder.
As for whether it’s a home – looks like one to me. It’s dinner time for birdies, and everyone’s bowl is being served.
There are gizmos that let you have a parrot in the kitchen (where they can see what is going on), but keep them safe (things like hot pans and some people food are very dangerous or even deadly for birds). My favorite is a clear perspex cube, 16″ in every dimension, with a perch and a couple of bowls inside. That way, Polly can be with folks, watch what’s going on, and be kept safe. Plus, Polly’s food splatter stays on the bird side of the perspex – no strange bits in the human food!

What a beauty! My cat, Alexa, went nuts as the video played though. She let me know that getting a bird (which I want desperately to do, especially after this video) would be a sick, sick mistake.
Sigh.
get a blue and gold macaw, at two feet tall your kitty probably wont bother it much, and if it did, i can gaurantee that it never would again!(they can break bones with their beak.) although the vet bills for both if they got in a fight and the cost of the bird ( around a thousand dollars) would be extremely expensive…
Can’t get a bird here either. My cat Thomas would be afraid of the bird, but my mom’s cat Mariah would try to eat him. (She used to be an alley cat and catch her own dinner.) If we got a bird, she’d start looking up recipes.
