A Solution for Those Who Can’t Own A Real Kitteh

funny pictures

For those who can’t have cats in their apartments or are allergic to cats, there is another option. Sega’s battery-operated Dream Cat Venus costs about $108 and has sensors that allow it to show cat-like behavior like blinking, moving its legs when you rub its belly, purring when you talk to it, and sleeping and laying around a lot.

    Uh…no. Just no.

  2. Doc's AmericanCompanion says:

not sure how i’d feel with a cat that speaks instead of making normal cat sounds… and…. doesn’t the US already have that in a childs toy?

  3. Dan says:

I have 3 black cats; that phoney cat would be ripped apart before the end of the day.

  4. sadi says:

I just know I would wake up to this thing malfunctioning and biting my face ala Chuckie.

  5. travis guttierrez says:

it doesnt look realistic and i dont see how anyone above the age of 7 could enjoy it.

    • sophia says:

i agree on that it dosent look relistic but i disagree on that anyone above the age of 7 would not like it because my cats would love it and make it thier minion

  6. Cygnia says:

Pros: No shedding, no shredding, no litter box to clean up, no money to spend on gooshy food needed, no biting my toes in the middle of the night, no biting my hand if I’m (not) petting her.

    Cons: It’s not a real cat. And a house just isn’t a home without a cat. :(

Still, I can see the market for it, especially for those allergic or are in places that don’t allow cats.

  7. Bigs says:

    BRB, buying one for Sakaki.

  8. Kelly says:

It’s ok. If it were cheaper I might like one.

Once you’re used to having a fuzzy purring kitty sleep with you, its hard to fall asleep without it. Might be ok for a travel buddy, especially if it’s warm too.

  9. BoQ says:

Yeah, but you’d be cleaning out little used batteries from the litter pan each morning!

  10. John says:

If you rub my kitteh’s belly, you get a handful of claws, not happy leg movements…does robo-kitteh do this? I think not….

  11. Ambercat says:

Wehre has awl teh propper LOLs gawn? Dull vidyos an stoopy voe tins – Ai has a harumph!

    • sunnyhuckle says:

Haz been away, but HAZ been surprised by teh changes. Nawtso gud, aifinkso!

    • tofuburger says:

o hai Ambercat! Iz Tofuburger. We’re trying to add moar funneh content to cheezburger and we’re keeping teh same number of awesome proper lolz, but we’re trying to add some moar funnehs of anudder type.

      • Shadowbane509 says:

I dunno, dusen’t seem like dere r alot of teh old funnehs. But i digress…digres…digreze…i dunno

      • nativeca66 says:

Ohai Tofu. Ai yam wif AC and SH. Mii no likey. Videos pleh!!! And voe tins adn udder fings awr too distracting. Let’s stick tew the classic LOLs. I fink dey will generate teh most views.

  12. OtherMother says:

My grandson (almost 2) loves his and it won’t run away from, bite or scratch him. It is a little creepy to be around as it goes into sleep mode and moves a bit once in awhile, surprising you. For a child that has almost everything AND loves kittens I say it’s great. We bought it for him for Christmas at the request of his parents. =^!^=

    • SuperMom says:

lol, that why we got one for our girl, it won’t scratch her or run away! She just turned 1 and her first word was ‘kitty’ she loves cats but i have an old scary mean black satan kitty. I’d rather she play with the robot one!

  13. Steven says:

Just how many batteries does it need to sleep and lay around a lot??? LOL

  14. KittehKatKraze says:

OMG, totally amazing in it’s reality, but way-high in creep factor, like dolls with teeth. Eeeeewwwww. Gotta gives cudos, though, for what a great job they did creating it. Real is always best, in pretty much everything. ;)

    • OtherMother says:

yez, KittehKK, grandson’s is programed to act very real…a playmate was carrying it by its neck and it made hissing sounds and tried to stand. My grandson was so surprised and worried, he cried.
Kitty was put on a high shelf in OFF mode. :D

    • ydoYOUwant2knowmyname? says:

      real is not best in vomit . . . . . unless you are a dog . . . . . EWWWW!!!

    • queeniamthebossofyou says:

if youv ever seen the movie poltergiest you do NOT want this kitty

      *cough cough* creepy clown doll*cough*

  15. Weej says:

My kitteh would try to hump it then he would try and kill it. :(

  16. I think once the real cat in the house gets ahold of it you won’t need to worry about the robot any more

  17. The Admiral says:

Does it also barf on the floor? It if doesn’t then it isn’t a cat.

    • Aym says:

Much agreed. It isn’t a cat if it doesn’t barf. Then again … anyone want to trade a couple barfing 13 year old calicos for a robot cat or two? Catch me on the right day – which lately is almost any day – and they’re yours. Airholes in the box optional upon request.

    • keshet says:

Or leave dead animals as presents…

  18. Patster says:

    It looks like a dog.

  19. annipuss says:

Better dan nuffin, but nawt much – wudn’t cum 2 u to cumfurt u wen u had a sad liek a reel kitteh duz.

    • Ambercat says:

An walcom yu hoem wen yu has been gorn fur awl ob fyv minnits, as if yu has bin to teh endz ob teh Werld an bak.

      • CottlestonPie says:

Are you sure you’re not thinking of a dog? ;)

I don’t have a lot of cat experience, but most of the ones I’ve been around would more likely just look up from a nap with an “oh, it’s you,” than meet you at the door with any kind of enthusiasm. That is, if they notice you at all.

Unless it’s mealtime, of course, and then you’re their best friend EVAR!!1!

        • annipuss says:

Sum kittehz mai be liek dat, but teh wuns Ai haz noed hab been lukkin owt teh windo wenit wuz tiem fur me 2 get hoem an den runned 2 meet me wen Ai opind teh dore.

          • Meesh says:

Mai kittehs awlwayz sit at teh top ob teh stayrz an waitz fur meh when Ai getz hoem frum werk. Tehn Ai getz teh snorgles and boomps an kitteh kisses wit teh ruff tung!

        • OnleeKitteh says:

My Kidd comes running down da hall meowing lots ebery day when ai gets home frum work. He’s so anxious to see me adn tell me ’bout hiz day. He haz tu be an only kitteh (duz nawt play well wif uvvers) adn no wun else iz home.

          • Gregora says:

My kitteh whines at the front door when I leave and when I get back, he’s all over me. He’s an only kitteh too and he’s still undecided about our human roommate.

And I doubt the RoboKitteh will cuddle with you for no reason and spend all their sleepy time cuddled with you like my kitteh has been doing all day. ^_^

  20. Kendra says:

Freaky – children are terribly illiterate in the natural sciences these days, and this will only add to it. No one was to be inconvenienced, so they get a pet that doesn’t require anything of its owner. Weird!

  21. VH Jergens says:

The Dream Cat video is completely uninformative. I hope somebody gets a better example.

  22. Lam says:

Just a toy and has nothing to do with real kittehs.

  23. R says:

I think it’s pretty awesome! Creepy, yes, but totally awesome. I have 2 real kitties of my own though. They’d get jealous. :P

  24. wozzle says:

My mom has Alzheimer’s and can’t care properly for a pet. I think something like this might be nice for her.

    • ks says:

When a family member was in a nursing home, I saw many of the dementia patients there had something like this. It made them so happy! I would definitely recommend it.

    • Klaus says:

I happen to know, that those Japanese engineers are building those things especially for this purpose. There was also a white robot-seal around the internet; with similar properties and a creepy Japanese commercial.
When I think about that, it creeps my out in two different ways:
On the one hand, i find it irritating that today’s society would rather build a technological device for it’s elderly members slowly drifting into dementia than real people bringing up the strenght and time to care for them, so they could fall apart in dignity. Gees – in Japan they even developed this complete water-toilet-thingy attached to bedtight patients so that there have to be no diaper changes anymore!
On the other hand, i happened to have a aunt who died from this disease. It was very disturbing to me to see a person, who cared for herself and others her whole life through, recline to acting like a naiv child. She also befriended stuffed animal dogs and “cared” for them, which encluded feeding them with sweet tea – of course she got sad afterward, because her “friends” fur became sticky.

      Life is not always easy!

      Greetings from Germany,
      Klaus
(Thanks for those who don’t write in lolspeak anymore, it’s very difficult for me to quickread those comments, as this is not my mothertongue).

      • Klaus says:

Not to be missunderstood: If it helps those patients and makes them happier, i would be the last one not to buy such a thing even for my parents/grandparents.

It just creeps me out and in a strange way makes me very sad.

        Regards.
        Klaus

      • twitch says:

Es ist auch sehr schwer fuer mich und ich bin Amerikanerin. Nur ein bischen LOLspeak ist gut. Zuviele ist.. ist… FAIL:)

      • wozzle says:

Klaus, those of us who have to care for a relative in this situation aren’t always able to care for a live pet for them as well, and, I might add, protect that pet from the very real dangers of living with someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing anymore.
Technological breakthroughs can be a big assist to those whose lives are being torn apart by an elder’s disintegration, and indeed, can add to the quality of care and perhaps allow the afflicted person to retain some dignity.

  25. sunnyhuckle says:

    ohai!
just popped in tew be apololojizing fur turning weerd and feeding taht troll to my tr0ll awn sunny’s day! Wuz nawt playing nice, and hazza feel-bad fur it.

Although ai miss yoo awl, and miss playing awn ICHC, aifinkso ai needs a liddul moar werk awn teh self control before ai can come back and play.

Am sawry fur being such a brat!

Ai will try sum moar, and come back when am moar reddy!

    ♥♥♥♥♥

  26. Th8rgoddess says:

does it have an option where the sensors stop working and it completly ignores you? and after you pet it for a while does it go psycho and try to claw your face off?

    otherwise it’s not worth it.

    • MewMix says:

“does it have an option where the sensors stop working and it completly ignores you?”
JUST LIKE A REAL CAT!!! lols.
      [sry. couldn't resist]

  27. G-race says:

It’s purrfect for those who aren’t allowed to have cats in their apartments HOWEVER Nothing can replace a real kitteh! ALSO, It totally creeps me out and I could never go to sleep with that thing in my house. BECAUSE My kitteh would make it his/her minion.

  28. Melissa says:

My kittehs would render it limb from limb in 4….3….2….

  29. OnleeKitteh says:

Oh – Upfi. Aifinkso dis iz just whut you needs fur an kitteh. You donut haz to make it move. But you can petz it.

  30. AlixeTiir says:

Derz wun problum wif dis kitteh. He’z nawt reelistiky nuff’, he speekz japawese an lukz kinda goggy-ish. he needz tah meow an luk moar kitteh-ish

  31. TexDaddy57 says:

    can you say Furby?

  32. Lois says:

my cats lay around the house and sleep all day with out batteries…

  33. Lili says:

Can not haz real…? Oh noes! Poer hoomanz! Dey missin’ owt… :<

  34. Amber says:

we had something called Toby when i was little… way cooler than this

  35. ferret says:

I have the one pictured at top, it’s actually a fureal friends toy(the one I have, not the video) and it’s actually rather boring. I thought it would be like a real cat, but all it does is lay down.

    … Like a real cat, I suppose.

  36. theONLYsunwolf says:

Aren’t there enough homeless cats and kittens already? If you can’t have one where you are, and you really want one, then…um…move! There are countless numbers of felines that need adopting and robots like this just aggravate the situation by occupying homes that might have adopted a real, live kitten. Products like this are deplorable.

    • khushiii says:

Moving is hardly an easy thing to do.

    • KITTEHLUVER says:

i agree. ITS SO TERRIBLE how people buy these instead of adopting REAL cats! its like zuzu pets. people will buy them instead of hamsters! i hate it how terrible toys like these make so many innocent, poor little animals DIE!!!!

      • Av says:

Some people are unable to care for real pets. Small children might forget to feed their hamsters, or other pets may kill them. Also, when you say “i hate it how terrible toys like these make so many innocent, poor little animals DIE!!!!”, do you realize that people like you will still buy real animals? Or people who have the time and patience to care for one? I know plenty of people with real cats/dogs/hamsters, and some of their children have robotic animals.

      • Christine says:

        I hope you are joking.

If someone would prefer a robot because they can’t/won’t take care of an animal properly, then I would rather they spend their money on a robot.

Owning a pet is work and money. I am not saying the work isn’t worth it to me. I rather give 50 of these to a animal hoarder or other type of person who doesn’t take care of their animals then see animals mistreated, abuse or suffer.

    • notAnn says:

What are you, made of money? That’s not a real option! Although I have actually decided AGAINST moving because a specialist vet told me my cats have the perfect life right where I am… the fact that it bores me to tears is less important!

  37. Fliqpy Pwnz U says:

It’s cute but costs waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy too muck and judging by the sound, it needs some more WD40. :)

  38. dawgeez says:

isnt that kinda like a FurReal toy they sell in walmart or something?

  39. Xopher says:

I love cats and am allergic to them, but this is only good for people who have no idea why anyone would want a cat. This is an interesting toy, and it might be fun to put it near a real cat and see what happened, but it doesn’t fulfill ANY of the human needs a real cat fulfills.

Verdict: Yuck. Go away, Sega cat-thingy.

  40. einaj says:

hao kin taht rplaze a reel kitteh? O ys! Hit dozent kum wehn u kawl it!

  41. Hawthorne says:

Did HSUS contribute to the research? I agree with the comment upthread that it will further contribute to the lack of understanding of animals and natural science.

And besides that, it moves like a dog.

  42. coolios says:

problum is it wood maek teh masheen noises. Dat wood nawt be so ralistic, ai duzn’t think.

  43. La says:

weird, not too cute, altho none of the mess-no poop or hairballs…

but, did it say ‘love me long time’ I’m serious, thought I heard that near the end

  44. lara wolfe says:

yeah, but does it wake you up at 4am for an ear scratch, barf in your best shoes and stick its head in your water glass?

  45. Heather S. says:

Why? Why do they make them talk? The best part about cats is they just make little purr and mew noises, they don’t talk! :( I’d get it if it shut up and made normal cat noises only.

  46. court says:

i don’t like the noises it makes!!! it sounds like it’s talking in a human voice. creepy! the technology is amazing though

  47. Crazy2Go says:

Great! Now people can have a kitteh that responds to you but doesn’t have to fed and cleaned up after or taken to the vet! Yay! I think of all the starving neglected kittehs that people thought were SO CUTE, but don’t take care of them.

  48. TheCheese909 says:

Of course a robot could never take the place of a real cat. And im not totally sure if i would be able to sleep in my bed knowing that that thing was in my house.. However, if you have a small child who wants a cat, i think that might be a good place to start, to make sure the kid wont just get bored with a cat right after you get one. I think that would be great practice for a small child.. Then if you do decide to go out and adopt/rescue a kitty you can then just go and get rid of that creepy sega cat. lol

  49. CrizzyX says:

I think this is a bad thing. yeah it’s cute and all. I think that it detaches people. It would keep from giving and receiving real affection from a real conscious animal.in turn it would influence people to think that the real animal is just another toy that can be disregarded, and eventually thrown away.

  50. Pete says:

Downside: They leave little batteries in the catbox.

  51. Leslie Hanna says:

the ‘frowning’ takes it totally out of the realm of kittydom

  52. Crystal Meth says:

Oh boy! It’s a feline realdoll.

  53. drarryfan says:

Anyone else creepily reminded of Furrbies?

  54. Laurie says:

This goes along with the cat cafes they have in Japan. I guess if you’re desperate for a cat fix this is better than nothing. At least it’s not made with real fur!

  55. MewMix says:

my cat Admiral Sparta would so shred it. and second, there are hypo allergenic cats, like the cornish and devon rex.

  56. Bethany_Anne says:

It would be a very expensive way to mess with my REAL cats.

  57. Tember says:

I think this is a good practice for little kids who don’t know how to be gentle to animals. I don’t like the robotic noise they make and when you pick them up you can feel the metal. If I had to be in a hospital with out my cat for a long time or something like that I wouldn’t mind one.

  58. SylverWyrd says:

    creeeeeeeeepeeeeeeee

  59. GirlOnTheCouch says:

Definitely can’t replace a real cat, but might work for peeps with really bad cat allergies. I feel so sorry for my friends’ kids who are allergic and wanna play w/ my kitteh when they come over, but their parents won’t let them

  60. rabidfox says:

Fake cat — you’d have to be pretty pittiful to have to be reduced to getting your affection from a robot.

  61. Heather says:

    I live in a no-pets-allowed apartment, and I do have toy-cats instead, but $108?! I saw a moving/responding cat at Toys R Us last week for $40!

  62. zac says:

teh kitteh iz secretly a tranzformers!!!!!

  63. Dalicat says:

    Eeuwww.

  64. tappertap says:

Iz wuld luvvers wun but if it don’t walk round and act like a real cat then it wouldn’t be that nice

  65. Cheshire Wolf says:

I’d buy it for 2 reasons 1) It’s from Sega 2) My real cat died of old age yesterday T_T

  66. Markitteh says:

Anyone who would spend that much money on a sophisticated toy must really, and I mean extremely to a neurotic degree, miss having a real cat. (Of course, I realize there are people to whom $108 plus tax is not a large amount. I just don’t know any of them personally.)

  67. danell says:

a robotic kitteh won’t pee on my dining room carpet!

  68. Jan says:

Why does it speak Japanese instead of lolspeak? -Sega dropped the ball there.

  69. $108 for a stuffed animal? What does it think it is, a beanie baby? A Cabbage Patch doll? Both of those lay around without batteries. Animated toys are freaky anyway. We had a rock & roll Elmo that was possessed. It would come on when no one was anywhere near it. It went bye-bye really fast. Creepy.

  70. Hawk says:

Oh noes… the furredbeez founded a nu bodi.

  71. Jake says:

Finally! A cat I can abandon even more than I do my real one! This thing is perfect!

  72. petslave says:

    Ugh!

  73. Gabby says:

This “kitteh” sounds horrid and creepy. Actual kittehs r way better!!! These “cats” probably don’t have any personality other than what you program dem 2 b like. :(

  74. lisa says:

Do you think I’d be working here if I could afford a real cat?

  75. KITTEHLUVER says:

my vote: they will take ober teh wurld!!!!!

  76. Gabby says:

oh and i also think that $108 is way 2 much money 2 spend on a FAKE cat. a total rip off

  77. c. says:

    it’s like one.. big.. furby.

  78. BuddhaPie says:

I think every kitteh should have one. It would be very gud for da health of dare claws, and save wear and tear on yo furnitures.

  79. mc says:

purrfuct for my ancient mum who can’t be trusted with real live pets.

  80. jesjuls says:

Well, they already have these for adults….

  81. Samalama says:

i are allergics to kittehs but i lube dem. dis wuld be purrrrrfect fur meh.

  82. Sandrainia5kittehs says:

I think rather than pay this kind of money for a toy everyone should boycott and picket the landlords who cruelly forbid people to own a pet. Or pass a law that if they make such a decision they must own 2 properties and one must be all animal free and the other allow pets. LOL and lets see which one fills up fastest and has longest waiting lists for new people wanting to live there. To keep my Kittehs with me I have gone to extremes of paying $500.00 deposits for each pet knowing it was a non-refundable deposit and $50.00 extra a month per pet and found it money well spent! I even bowed to landlord who demanded my cat be declawed ONCE. Did the operation on the poor cat, which ruined his ability to walk and play like he normally did before, and found out it was just a ploy landlord was using to get all pets out of building! Once my cat was compliant to that clause in new lease they added a no dog clause, and a no smoking clause. I was not about to abandon my toy poodle and kowtow to remainder of lifestyle nazi controls this landlord was pulling. No dog clause was final straw as Lady in apt. next to mine had had her dog with her for 18 yrs without one complaint from the other tenents about noise or dog poops, she policed the area every time dog went out! She had been living in her apt. with the dog when the landlords bought the place, and dog was not going to live much longer, why couldn’t the heartless landlords give it time to pass on in its own time in the comfort of being loved with the “mommy” it had known since puppyhood. The Lady had recently fallen and was recovering nicely from broken hip in middle of this with all us other tenants helping to dog sit for outside walkies and pick-up duty. So in middle of all this she had to be made to pack and move in with her daughter to keep her baby with her. Cruel heartless landlords should be made to feel the wrath of the people that pay their bills. Kids have been proved to do way more damage to properties in every test the real estate industry has ever done, but you don’t see them being banned in usual apt. situations, unless building is set apart as seniors only at its original building and zonings. So long as we allow these lifestyle nazis to rule our life they will dictate how we live till its not living anymore!!!!!

    • Dr. Duke says:

The only reason landlords don’t ban kids is that there are Federal laws against it. HUD and other agencies even monitor classified ads looking for the phrase “No Kids” and prosecute the landlord who ran the ad.

  83. Melody says:

This may be a solution for the lonely and cat-deprived, but it is inexcusable SPAM on this website. Get thee hence!

  84. Kitty lover says:

And it is probably made of real cat fur from China where they skin animals alive to make toys.

  85. Kelly says:

These things made in china are usually made with real dog fur. I can’t imagine a better reason not to ever buy one!

  86. Jenny says:

Obviously the people that made this have never tried to rub their cats bellies. Every cat I have ever had (a lot) will go bonkers and try to scratch/and bite you. lol not twitch its legs lol

    • Quite depends on the cat.. If you try and rub a strange kitty’s belly it’ll most likely beat the hell out of you. Unless of course it’s one of those really trusting kitties who think nobody would ever try to hurt them (=claw their guts out thru the belly).

The toy looks quite hideous compared to a real cat. Why is it they can’t make (cat) soft toys looking like the real deal? I’ve seen many realistic and cute toy doggies, but the cat ones always seem too clumsy or just plain weird… Are kitties naturally just too perfect and delicate creatures to mimic?

  87. Nat says:

my dog would use it as a sex toy

  88. stendez says:

Its not realistic if it doesn’t wake you up at 5:30 because its hungry.

  89. Akherousia says:

It is talking? Then it sux. talking makes a toy a bit too… toyish? so makes it creepy

  90. me says:

    I had a furby once… Wait, you’re telling me that’s not a furby?

  91. ariane says:

Can you say “Cabbage Patch Cat?”

    Ugh. That is all.

  92. Lisa M. says:

That was pathetic. At least they could program it to bite you when you kept poking it like that. And what about some crapping and barfing? A little more realism, please.

  93. Venus says:

Seems way too… interested in the human to be a real cat.

  94. kit10s says:

Its weird, but its good for those who have allergies.

  95. Rowan says:

Does it also pee behind the TV and hack up hairballs in the middle of the living room?

  96. saiyajinraiko says:

Oh god, it’s a Furby in disguise!

    KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!

  97. Flamin' June says:

Ye gods, that’s ugly. And it talks? How is that even close to being lifelike? Horrible.

  98. ... says:

Fake animals… eww. Creepy and disgusting. Fake animals have no consciousness, no emotion. It’s an empty shell, devoid of any life.

Why invest your emotions into something that is not real? It’s like these people who get all emotional over cartoon characters and stuffed teddy bears.

  99. Besabelle says:

ha ha ha, I have this one,it was a present for my birthday!
it’s a funny thing, but my real cat doesn’t seem to like it))

  100. poussinboi says:

It’s not alive so it’s a doll not a pet. Children might love it but it would be sad if an adult did.

  101. ArmadilloJr says:

Finally, a cat I’m not allergic to. Finally I can stop sneezing. It’s the same with the iDog, the only dog I’m not scared of.

  102. jim says:

SUPER! NO STINKY URIN AND DOO DOO! NO HAIRS EVERYWHERE! NO SCRATCHES! REAL CATS SUCK! THIS IS THE REALNESS!

  103. memphiscat says:

seriously, it would be great for alzheimers, elderly, infirm, hospitalized. A little kitteh medisin.

  104. Rodrigo says:

Basement cat ROBOT INVASION HAS BEGUN!!!!

  105. cymach says:

    - I can’t understand why someone would stay interested longer than, say, a week, because of the lack of development.
    - People in big cities already don’t have much space to have animals around, and in the whole little contact with nature. It would be practical for them, but they would not learn how to treat real animals.

  106. It needs to sound like a real cat and feel like one. There are wonderful fake furs out there that are super soft and fun to touch–and this cat’s coat looks like the coat on furr-real pets. not-touchable!!! And why the price difference when we already have fake cats?

  107. Lilly says:

    Machines: replacing kittehs’ jobs, too!

  108. Draco Dei says:

Better if they didn’t try to make it talk human.

  109. Jeremy Puss says:

I almost preferred the Japs when they were intent on world domination and inhuman medical experiments on real people. Now they are mainly freaky and just sore at the Chinese for having taken over their old mantle.

  110. ColdFusion says:

it clicks constantly, makes expressions like a dog, and apparently speaks softly in a child’s voice.. yeah no.

  111. Reagan says:

As much as I wish I could have a cat (cause my germaphobe mom thinks they’re disease-ridden and won’t let one in the house), I don’t think this would cut it. Yeah it can act like a cat sometimes, but it lacks emotion–after all, it’s a robot.

I wants a kitteh the same way kittehs want cheezburgers–an eternal, futile struggle, at least until I move out on my own.

  112. caterra says:

Hmmm, not for me. I like kitties with a soul — and other real parts and traits too.

  113. maxon says:

Well, it’s all a bit Stepford, innit?

  114. Marilynn says:

Nothing can replace a real cat but i guess it is better than nothing when you really can’t have a real one.

  115. Ivory says:

But it won’t surprise attack your feet. Without that, it just can’t come close. Also, I feel like this is breaking some sort of commandment – something about false idols.

  116. Bob says:

I gave one to my fiance, and she left me. Ok, there may have been other reasons …

  117. Liz1388 says:

Hope this doesn’t say something about me. Am I the only one who thinks the pose of the cat in the top picture is humanly provocative (as in girly mag shot) and not typically cat-like?

That said, if this kind of toy would satisfy those who really shouldn’t own a real cat, I’m all for it. I know lots of people who shouldn’t have real animals as pets.

  118. Kristin says:

Do androids dream of electric sheep?

  119. egal069 says:

I would say that making it sound like a real cat would be a good start, really takes away from good the robotics really are, might be a winner otherwise, at least for those who can’t have the real thing.

  120. Eloise says:

Great. Like my cat NEEDS an evil android twin.

  121. Meredith says:

Unless it can jump up on the bed and cuddle you awake for breakfast with it’s purrs and sweet little meows; unless it can help you with the keys on the keyboard when you are trying to do important work on the computer, what’s the point???

  122. Justice says:

    ROBOKITTEH… PRIME DIREKTIFS

    1. Serve teh Hoomins trust
    2. Protekt teh cheezburger
    3. Uphelds teh paw

    4. Classifieds

  123. Spiffy says:

It would be great if it didn’t talk. This is like a complicated re-iteration of the furby. It’s movements however are very impressive and life-like. I’d definitely find it entertaining, but probably no more than a week…

I’d like to see more of what it can do, but it will never beat a real kitty.

  124. katatak says:

when my grandpa was sick with alzheimers, we got him a black, stuffed dog. he thought the dog was the old family cat, Blackie…sometimes he got worried that Blackie’s heart wasn’t ticking, but for the most part the toy gave a lot of comfort to my grandpa. i’d think this robotic kitteh that purrs could have the same effect for lots of people in nursing homes.

  125. Anonymouse says:

How do you answer “All uv de aboves”?

  126. phoenyxrose says:

I work in an Alzheimers’ unit — we have 5 of them and they work like a charm, and not only on the residents!

  127. Aza says:

If this thing acts like a real kitteh then it will be really easy on batteries. It will be active for about an hour a day, and even then that hour will be full of laying down and preparing to pounce. The other 23 hours will be spent sleeping in the middle of your bed

  128. CheezburgerFanatic says:

This is an awesome idea! Especially for those of us who can’t live with cats (or even those who want one without the downsides). But not if you have to replace its batteries constantly. A solar-powered model would be ingenious (since cats LOVE sunlight); so would be one that turns food into energy.

And plus, if you live in a predator bird’s hunting grounds and it snatches your robo-cat up, it”ll get an unpleasantly plastic-y dinner, and the cat can use its GPS to try to get home!

  129. studentdoktorkat says:

it’s good for people who can’t have pets in their apartments, but there are plenty of real kitties and doggies that need homes. a robot pet shouldn’t replace a real pet.

  130. Karga says:

Uhm, does anyone remember their Netflix commercials?
“Me and Mr. Puddy wanna watch a scary movie.” It’s one of those robot cats!
I think that a person should of course get a real cat, but if they’re elderly and can’t be responsible for living pets anymore and still needs a companion, this is the best we can do for now.

  131. ARTY says:

Yeah, gr8. But why is it talking?

  132. Kit Sokudo says:

Yea my cousin totally got one for Christmas and my kitten Cali did not like.

  133. fail_of_doom says:

    WTWTF???????

  134. Lori says:

    How tragic!!!
Mechanical kitties would deprive their owners of the JOYS of changing stinky litter, shredded furniture, and live births in your clothes closet…..

    Oh, I’m not helping, am I? ;-D

  135. ceilingcat001 says:

its kinda stoopid and creepy and adopting a real kitteh is free kittehs should never be sold at a grocry stor like wal mart

  136. blonderengel says:

Supertcats Last All Summer Long + Bicentennial Cat + Replicat + Wintermeow + In Space, No One Can Hear You Meow = “Behold, I have created the Smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.”

  137. Royston Lodge says:

It could be kewl if it was WAY more realistic.

  138. Gypsie Rose says:

Want! Just to torment my kittehs!

  139. nerdly_dood says:

    Two words.

    SHOTGUN BAIT.

I like cats, not robots that try to act like them.

  140. carroty tea says:

This… scares me and makes me feel sad at the same time. But yeah, it is meant for people who can’t own a real one, so… I guess it’s a good thing.

  141. Sai65 says:

i wood get it if it has a “get meh chezburger” feature.

  142. Liane says:

Amazing what kind of robots they can build these days.
but it’s not very realistic, because real cats don’t speak.
i think it’s very nice but nothing could replace an real cat. :-)

    stay lol,
    Liane

  143. kamizilla says:

. . . It makes complete sense for the Japanese market.

  144. CHEZBURGER!! says:

ok i think that the stupid robotic loo brush would make a perfect scratching post > : )

  145. Fat Cat says:

I would make an awesome desk ornament, but nothing replaces real cat.

  146. tkatt says:

This THING is wrong on so many levels! It’s creepy as hell!

  147. Littlest sleepiest kitteh says:

When i was very young, I got a splinter in my foot. My dad tried to get it out with a straight pin. It hurt a lot. When she heard me crying, my cat came over and started chewing him out. I’d be willing to bet that what she said to him was cat language for “What the heck do you think you’re doing?! That is no way to treat your Kit! Stop that right now, I’m warning you!

  148. chloekitty11 says:

all of teh abuv. good for teh hoomins who cant has kitteh(which is sad) and bad for teh hoomins who r squemish and alredy has a kitteh

  149. chloekitty11 says:

did anyone see that south park episode about “chinpokomon”? same concept.

  150. Brandon says:

I would never sleep with it in my house because my cat would make it its minion and make it kill me!

  151. Dani says:

    Seriously???? I don’t think so.

  152. Ray says:

No dog tags, shedding, walking, feeding. Will it pass the kid test?

  153. Sabje says:

As said by Klaus before, these toys are meant for people suffering from Alzheimer. Those people are no longer able to take proper care of real animals. For them these toys really improve the quality of life. This has been researched.

  154. littlemissjoker says:

IWANTONEIWANTONWIWANTONEIWANTONE! Robots are awesome, cats are awesome, robot cats…AWEEEEESOOOOOOME!!!!! (^_^)

  155. Saul says:

I dont understand why everybody hates this….
I bought one for my little cousin who’s in the hospital for cancer, she really liked it…
