I can imagine some kind of turtle communications “A little help here?” at the beginning.
They had probably just finished mating. I once went out into my back yard and saw two box turtles… uhm… doing what they do when they want to make little box turtles. One was on its back and the other was on its legs facing the opposite direction. Evidently they stay like that for hours and the one on its legs will even drag the other around sometimes.
