When you first glance at this picture, you’re probably wondering why we would just post up a picture of dirt on the site. But it’s not just a picture of dirt, there is a real live cute cat in this pic! Believe me, there really is. It took me awhile and I ended up grabbing three other Cheezburger folks to help me find the cat, but when we finally did find the cat, we were like, why didn’t we see that sooner?!

I rather quickly found the dog’s head, also a fox’ head. After I don’t know how long of staring I saw what could be interpreted as the red/white tiny cat in the centre, and then I started saeeing outlines of malformed kittens and cats all over the thing. If I’ll look at it longer, I’d probably see a parade of elephants, two guys making out, a baby and my left big toe as well.
To conclude: nah, I’m not baffled.

It’s there – dead center there’s a small patch of grass, directly above that patch you see white/grey – half of the sitting kitteh’s face is grey/white and his belly can be seen a bit.. then another centimeter above is his body
You’ve got the right patch of grass, but the kitty’s only gray and white if you see in grayscale. He’s orange and white, with a white face and orange ears and his body is directly parallel to his head.

None of the highlighted pictures helped me at all.. my brain refused to believe that that patch of dirt was a cat (which it’s not! its a patch of dirt that mildly resembles a cat). So I’ve drawn the cat out (excuse my poor drawing skills) in hopes that some of the people who haven’t found it yet can waste a little less time.

Look for the two black dots just above the tuft of grass, those are the eyes, the white is the underbelly and legs and the lighter orange is the top of the head and back. LOOK FOR THE TWO BLACK DOTS AND YOU CAN’T MISS IT.

OK, if you can see the clod that looks like the wolf’s head, there is a clump of grass just to the right, at about “4:30″. just below that clump, at about “6:30″ (or 5:00 from the wolf head) is another clump of grass. The cat is between the two clumps of grass, facing the camera almost dead-on.
The wolfs-head clod is near dead-center, btw, just to the left.
There is NOTHING in the picture beside a number of pixels which seem to form a part of a field or something.
I can see two kitten-shaped forms in the picture, but there is no objective way to tell if there really was a kitten when the picture was taken, because of the bad resolution and the lack of focus.

People will gripe about anything and you can’t make ‘em all happy. This was fun, and the sharp-eyed people who found the cat dead center/centre were very helpful. If the complainers had paid attention, they’d have found it too. If you find another hidden cat, I’d love to see it and try to find it. Please don’t listen to the malcontents!

In order to see it I had to save the pic and zoom in. Dead center, real cat, facing the camera with his butt going out a little to our left. Even then, with the resolution as horrible as it is, it could be dirt that looks miraculously like a kitty. It does appear to be a real kitty though. Just a low res image thats too small by default to see him if you run your monitor at high res.

There is a VERY small kitteh, sitting on his/her belly almost looking at the camera, right next to what would be the “wolf’s” chin. He/she is orange-ish on top, and off white/gray on bottom. He/she is literally sitting behind the little piece of grass in the middle of the picture.

It’s in the center of the picture, right behind a little clump of grass. It’s orange and white. If you see the imprint in the dirt that looks like a cat, its behind its back. If you see the angry dog head, its about a centimeter to the right down. Be warned- if you zoom in too much, you can’t see it very well. Zooming in might lead to longer searching. Once you find the cat, you can zoom in and look at it closer.

I finally found the cat. In the center, right where you would expect it to be if you’re taking a cat picture. It would’ve helped if the picture was higher resolution, though. Maybe next time we could have a link to a higher-rez pic.

What makes this so successful is that the breast of the cat looks a bit like the outline of a cat’s face, so the eye/brain connection tries to create a cat that isn’t there. If you look just above that image of a cat’s head, you begin to see that what looked like the ears is actually the outline of the muzzle.
I’m sure if you guys made the picture half this size nobody would find it

If it helps at all, once I knew where to look, it helped to stand up and look at my monitor at a downward angle. That made the three dimensional shape of the kitteh stand out a bit.

Am I the only one who sees a dog—err goggie–in the picture too? Right click and save the picture, then open up Paint. Using the line tool, stretch a line diagonally from top left to bottom right, then from bottom left up to top right. The place where the lines cross, that’s where the kitten is. There is a tuft of grass just below kitty’s chin. A real cat, not an optical illusion. (who took this picture?)

People really need to read the comments before posting things like “A hint please?” It is a little silly to see those comments come after all the very clear hints. Not that those people will read this comment, it’s so far down.
Anyway, if you have a mac and are using firefox, maybe safari does it too I don’t know… Hold down shift and the apple key, and type “+” and everything will zoom in. There are a couple ways to zoom in on a mac. i don’t know about you pc users.
Anyway, it’s a real cat, not a drawing of a cat, not an abstract image of a cat, as the caption says, a photograph of a real cat. It’s tiny and blended in, but there are about 20 descriptions of where it is before this comment so if you read this comment you have enough info already to find it.

After looking a while I do see what everyone else is seeing BUT- at this low resolution I can’t be sure if that actually is a cat or if it just coincidentally looks like one. It could go either way but it’s impossible to know for sure at this resolution. it’s kind of like that rumor from Roger Rabbit that Donald said something racist- after hearing over and over “it’s there if you listen carefully” you’ll hear what everyone else heard and it will just sound right because you’re convinced it’s supposed to.

Whoa, this is really hard to find. I don’t blame you if you can’t find this, it’s really hard. If you want to know where he is, you have to zoom in at EXACTLY dead center, and you can see the cat, right behind a few blades of grass. (You might have to stare at it for awhile.)

I would bet that people who see this immediately are likely to be colorblind, so the color does not distract them from noticing the shape and texture difference. I am going to have my husband look at this to test my theory.

It took a few minutes, but I found it. Cute little thing. It looks so obvious once you see it. Okay… I did use a little trick. I’m on a laptop, and I thought if I moved the screen backwards or forwards it might show something. It did.

I’m still convinced that there’s a cat in the lower left of the picture, as well. Just above the “canhas” in the icanhascheezburger.com label in the bottom left. The lighting in the picture is very flat – no sharp shadows that I can see – and that area is darker than the surrounding area (actually it is darker than anything else in the picture) and there is a definite curl at the end of what looks like the tail.
Dark colored, climbing down, maybe sticking it’s head into what looks like a little cave? Hadn’t noticed it before now.
Ok, I see the orange tabby, with a lot of white on it’s face in the center. But what’s that in the upper left side in the grass? It’s about 1/2 inch from the top of the pic, almost to the corner. It looks like a fox to me.
