OT, but is that an AMC Spirit sitting in the background? Haven’t seen one of those in ages!

Sorry for no lolspeak, but I just got in from mowing the back yard (over a quarter-acre with a me-propelled push mower).

  23. Thermalk says:

It’s a nice picture but, considering what happened recently where I live, it’s not always a wise decision to stop your car on the highway for that, check it out; http://news.nationalpost.com/2010/06/28/two-killed-in-quebec-after-driver-stops-for-ducks/

  24. Joyfulcalm says:

This is one of those moments that require no words to feel this man’s compassion…I love it!

  25. flyhawk says:

That was a common site when we lived in Minnesota, um….land of 10,000 lakes, and that doesn’t include the little ones. lol

  26. cloudy says:

Whut is dere to say but
    AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

  27. Zane says:

Not to be a downer, but a few weeks ago in the Montreal area, a 20 year old woman slammed on her brakes to avoid hitting some ducks — but a man and his 16 year old daughter on a motorcycle plowed right into the car and died. (The mother was on another motorcycle and was injured.)

I love animals, but if it’s not safe to stop, you shouldn’t (unless you’re about to hit something big, like a moose).

    • Niggit says:

But surely, if you’re riding a motorbike you should be giving yourself plenty of stopping distance anyway? He must have been riding too close and too fast – you have to allow for things like emergency stops and tyre blowouts from the car in front.

I still think the woman driver did the right thing. It’s not her fault the motorbike crashed into her.

      • MJ says:

Maybe you shouldnt judge the situation if you werent there, by blaming the victims. “It is forbidden to immobilize your vehicle in the middle of the road unless it is an extreme emergency,” Quebec provincial police Sgt. Richard Gagne said.”

Did you read that? It is forbidden. Why? Perhaps someone MIGHT be following too closely behind. If it violates the law, she did NOT do the right thing.

“He must have been riding too close” does not mean you are stating an absolute fact.

      • Hoeech says:

She decided to hit the brakes after a turn in the road. When the motorcyclists came around the bend, they had no time to react.

      • KingThing says:

You’re defending her? At least she could’ve seen PEOPLE WERE BEHIND HER!

    • lenore says:

Um yeah…what Zane said. I don’t know about Montreal, but in the US, the person who hits the person in front of them is ALWAYS found liable in a rear-end collision. It’s your responsibility to make room in front of you for these exact kinds of situations. That’s basic driver’s ed. Too bad people like you and a sensationalist news media are trying to make this woman out to be the bad guy.

  28. Sullie says:

Dude… I’m in love. Kindness is HAWT.

  29. Jesse says:

Some years ago, my ex-wife and I were returning to Durham, NC, after shopping in Raleigh. As we were leaving, we were met by a family of goose, walking hurriedly across four lanes of traffic. At the end of the line was one little goslet. We figured they were walking because the little one couldn’t fly. It was–and still is–a very happy memory.

  30. Logic-Mage says:

wish more people were like that

  31. Saphira says:

    awsum. Velly awsum.

  32. Sarge says:

    That guy is totally quackers.

  33. R M Schneewind says:

    Make way for ducklings.

  34. ihasacat says:

    Thanks, your awesome
    thx, ur awsom

  35. AC says:

Ya ya, a hundred people all cooing over the poor baby ducks and cheering the message of the caption but I guarantee 99% of you are meat eaters, so don’t get too self-righteous about how much you care about all living things….oh I know, it is different when it comes from a supermarket…

    • please-think says:

Yes, if you really care about animals, please don’t stop at just making cute comments about cute animals. Please learn about factory farms, where 99% of eggs, dairy & meat are produced.

Factory farming is a truly horrific thing, and if you saw how the animals are treated, you wouldn’t be making such cute comments… you’d be crying or throwing up.

Please think about this before you pile the kids into the minivan for a happy meal….

    • Judy says:

Last time I checked, baby ducklings weren’t found in the freezer section of the local grocery store!

    • Cedarbox says:

Relax, this isn’t a soap box.

      • please-think says:

Sorry… but millions of just-as-cute baby animals are enduring horrific abuse on factory farms.

Cute baby male chicks are ground up alive, cute baby calves’ tails are docked and cute baby piglets are castrated with no anesthetic.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

This isn’t about eating meat or not, it’s about the treatment of these animals being horrifically wrong.

Please, if you care about the baby ducklings in this picture, please also think of the animals in factory farms and educate yourself about their plight.

An easy start is try the veggie burger at BK for your next fast food run…

  36. jingleberrykooptins says:

awwwwwww look at the last duckling sitting down awwwwwwwww

  37. gypsycookie says:

It’s nice that even the picture gets the respect of proper grammar. :)

  38. Sixx says:

Something similar happend to me a few years back, I stopped to let a family of ducks cross the street to the golf course where they live and a cop showed up coming in the other direction. He turned on his lights and stopped traffic on the street going both ways on the street for the ducky family. The police officer got a round of applause from the waiting cars! :D

  39. Rossini says:

In the UK ducks have right of way on the road! If someone decided to try, they could send you to jail for hitting a duck

  40. TLV says:

I think this guy”s girlfriend talked about this on IMMD. I know the circumstances match exactly.

  41. kilbert says:

jeez, way to back up traffic for miles.

    ass.

  42. Miloflygon says:

I’d say the same thing as most of you……… if this happened everywhere, as well as with all other animals.

Please-think has it right. Domesticated animals are horrificly treated, and it’s WORSE with exotic animals.

  43. Darklady says:

Early Sunday morning, getting home from a 16hr shift, had to screech stop to avoid mama turkey and about a DOZEN babies! They all made it across…

  44. Sirhisss says:

Just wondering how many of you would have stoped if it was a snake crossing the road?

    • lenore says:

A snake would be much more difficult to spot, but if I saw one, I would stop or try to avoid hitting it one way or another.

    • christine says:

I not only stopped for a snake in the road the other day, I pulled over and picked up him up and took him over to the side of the road he was headed towards… about a 6″ long pine snake. He said thanks and went on his way. :)

      • Sirhisss says:

Thank you so much for sharing! The world would be a nicer place if we had more people like you.

        • christine says:

          Thanksss, Sirhisss…. :)

Yes, it drives me crazy when people kill a snake the second they see one in their yard, before they even see what kind it is! :(

Snakes are just as important to a healthy ecosystem as cute wittle duckies are… :)

p.s. I also rescued a bat at my work a few weeks ago…

  45. SonnyTheCat says:

Nice that the man stopped for the duck family. Nice that he loves animals so much that he even drives one named after an animal – the American Eagle. Sad thing is, that car emits enough hydrocarbons at idle to kill that small family of ducks, so who really wins here?

  46. Salyma says:

The sentiment would be cuter if recently a woman hadn’t decided that a family of ducks outweighs common sense and safety. No she didn’t get hurt, but a father and his daughter got killed because she decided to just park her car in the left hand lane of a highway without blinkers. Kind of ruins these photos for me.

  47. Tango says:

2 weeks ago a woman halted abuptly to let some ducks cross the highway. Results , a man and his kid on a motorcycle died when they slammed the car. The wife also crashed with her motorbike and is in serious condition.

The woman who stopped for the birds is facing severe charges and will probably end up doing time for this stupidity to stop on a highway for some small animals.

    • poou says:

If you don’t leave enough space to be able to stop in time if the vehicle in front of you stops suddenly (for whatever reason, ducks, blown tire, heart attack, seizure), then…. you won’t stop in time.

I’m sorry the motorcyclists were killed and hurt, but it doesn’t appear that they understood simple physics.

    • Ryamos says:

      A) I agree to a point with Poou. B) Always stop for animals. C) No one respects motorcyclists sadly on the roads. I’ve been on my wife’s bike (as passanger) and had cars try to share a lane with us by trying to turn with us beside them. I have steel-toe boots. They have a dented door.

  48. meowzer says:

This happened about a month ago on 280 – a Highway Patrolman stopped all lanes of traffic and ‘escorted’ the mama and her ducks off the freeway. 3 hours later another set of ducks and ducklings were on another freeway and the SAME Officer stopped traffic for the ducks and helped them off the freeway.

  49. Shannon says:

This is probably the best pic on here. it deff made me smile =)

  50. Ryamos says:

Canadian! I knew it! No yank would bother.

  51. DragonEmily says:

de uder week, we had to stopz 4 de same reeson! de mother is so dedikated dat she wont moov until all her duklings r safe… gorgeous!
