This is cruel. Our pets are with us to be loved and cherished. Everything we do for them must be in their best interests. To all those of you who find this funny (including the moderators for accepting this) shame on you all. I feel sorry for your pets. I would not like to be your cat.
it is not cruel. My senior cat can no longer care for his long fur like he used to. My daily brushing is a poor substitute and hi fur gets matted. I have him groomed ans haved because mats become tight and painful. My cat is fine, this cat in the photo is fine.

Lionelcat the point of my post is if you do this in the cats’ best interest then it would be condonable (as you did with yours), if you shave a cat because you think it looks funny then it is cruel. Would you agree?

Shaving long haired cats with trouble grooming themselves and a fear of brushing is NOT cruel. It saves them from mats that painfully pull at their skin. Please do your research before you accuse another pet lover of cruelty!

Not sure how this got on here, but I’m almost positive this is my mother’s cat. The cat is shaved about 2 times a year because of serious issues with mats in her fur, hairball issues, and issues with cleanliness at the rear if you get my drift. The shaving is done by a vet, and is in no way cruel. Persians have been bred by humans for abnormal traits (long fur, pushed in noses) that can cause serious problems if not addressed by their human caretakers. Yes, show cats are groomed several times a day by their owners and when this is done there isn’t a need to shave. This cat is not a show cat and was taken in as a stray in poor condition, much of it due to the problems the long fur caused when unattended.
