    Sadly, yes.
We’re helping prep a rental property for sale. The tenants had 3 un-housebroken dogs and one non-neutered male cat.
Surgical masks sprinkled with Old Spice have been our salvation.

    • Is it too far gone to try fabric refresher on the carpet? The previous tenants in our apartment had a kitty who peed on the floor, and I had pretty good luck with fabric refresher on the spots that I guess were his favorite targets.

There is some good stuff out there for removing skunk odor from pets and fabrics. Have had GREAT success with it, though friends with dogs didn’t find that it worked so good for them, it was wonderful for removing cat odors. Then I remembered, skunks and cats are more closely related than skunks and dogs, aren’t they? I think it is called Skunk Out and I’ve bought it at both pet stores and grocery stores. You mix it with warm water and soak the spot, (with a sponge) just enough to get the padding underneath good and wet, then cover it with a wet towel and plastic for 24 hours. Soak up the water the next day with a dry towel and let it air dry. Enzymes kick in and destroy the stuff that has sunk in that are the basis for the smell. Works pretty darn good for mildew odors in carpets, too. One bottle of it goes a heck of a long way. Best to use it after you have shampooed, so that you have the visible dirt out and know for sure that it is urine or other biological odors that you are fighting with. It keeps on working to continue to destroy the smell. No, I don’t sell this stuff, but after almost 20 cats over 25 years, (plus raising three boys) I’ve used quite a bit of it.
