Ohai….mae Ai has ur ATTENSHUN pleez: Ai has a frend wif a kitteh caer kweshun adn Ai kant halp hur. *Lolspeak off* Her mother cat is still producing milk and the kittens are 8 weeks old. The mother has been spayed, and the vet doesn’t want her to nurse them anymore. The vet told my friend to put the kittens in another room until the mother dries up, but it’s not happening, and mother & kittens want to be together. They had to give her meds because she was in pain from all the milk. Anyone ever have this problem, or know what to do to make her dry up? Thank you!!!!!
Completely unscientific response here … but why not let her stop nursing when she and the kittens are ready for the milk to stop? Wouldn’t nature know best?
I know you said the vet doesn’t want her to nurse any more — but why not? That doesn’t make sense to me.
I agree with Nighshayde. Why force it? Momma won’t want them nursing forever anyway.
When Spooky was ready, she cut her youngsters off, although weirdly enough, Tonya (who hated Spooky and the youngsters) immediately had a change of heart and, for the remainder of the time that i had the Spooklets with me, Tonya let them use her as a surrogate, though i don’t think she actually produced any milk for them
I agree with both of you…I got the impression that it had something to do with her being spayed. I Googled it and it looks like it’s okay for her to. I’m going to tell my friend that she should get a second opinion….and suggest that she let them nurse over the holiday weekend! Thanks NS & TMJ!
