On a more serious, and non-cheezspeak note, I recently got two foster kittens from the humane society as part of the foster kitten program thing. The thing is, they both have somewhat of a cold. One of them has it considerably worse, and she (Cleopatra, or as we call her, Cleo) seems to have a stuffy nose and is almost constantly sneezing. She seems to need to blow her nose, anything we can do to help her? All help is appreciated, but from anyone veterinary related (if there are any) would be especially welcome. They are very cute, and I just feel bad for her! I just thought I would ask all of the cheezpeople who are fellow cat lovers!

My Lincoln came from the shelter and immediately developed a cold. He was horribly stuffed up. If you can run a humidifier, that would help. I started him on antibiotics immediately, not for the cold, but the secondary bacterial infection. Also gave him l-lysine (the vets or shelter should be able to help you out here.)
I had begun the meet-and-greet with my other two, but immediately put a stop to that. He had a couple of horrible days, then gradually got better. He stills gets eye infections or whatever from the cold virus on occasion, but nothing serious.
I also slept with him on the futon in the den while he was recovering.

When my Josie came home from being kenneled once, she had a nasty cold.
I ran a vaporizer (with no vapor rub) near her favorite chair and put her in the bathroom with me whenever I took a shower.
Also, I dampened a q-tip with warm water and very gently wiped her nose with it.
I made plain chicken broth (no salt, etc.) and spoon-fed her. (Keep in mind that kittehs usually don’t eat what they can’t smell.)
Kittehs can get dehydrated VERY quickly, so keep a close eye on them! Call your vet with any ideas/suggestions.
No suggestions but good luck with your kittehs! You is doing ceiling cat’s work!

I decided not to reply to any one of your great suggestions, so as not to show favoritism…. the society gave us some -I dunno how its spelled but- i think it is doxicycline? So we’re givin her some of that every day, along with her brother, Marc (Antony, if anyone’s curious), because he is showing a few symptoms. I am also keeping our big ol’ cat away, 1 because she gets jealous of kittens, and 2 we don’t want her getting sick, because she might be impossible to give meds too!

Can I ask, are the cold symptoms different to catflu? I know my Moliere has to go for vaccinations every year – its quite prevalent in Johannesburg…
