I think it’s part of old UK superstition about witches, that they couldn’t cross moving water. The “fact” plays a part in the story in Robert Burns’ poem “Tam O’ Shanter” when the hero is being pursued by witches and he rides his horse across a stream to get away, just in time. For all I know, that may be the only story that makes that claim about moving water. Any folklore scholars out there? I’m fairly sure the story has nothing to do with modern Wiccan practice.
I have ghosts or spirits in my room. I first I didn’t not belive it but my woman and kids believe it. When I am on the computer alone the bed creaks like some is sitting down. I always get the hairs on the back of my neck stand up too.

Not a folklore scholar, just a nerd who reads to much and watches a lot of Discovery Channel. But yes, I’ve seen/heard that witches/ghosts/assorted evilness can’t cross running water, the reason seeming to be that water represents purity/life/sacredness ect. Stuff that bad spirits don’t like and won’t come into contact with.
