Oh, probably that the cat’s fur was matted beyond the ability of anyone to brush out, and/or is prone to such and they wanted to prevent it… bad matting is horribly uncomfortable for the cat, and it looks like the sort that would have it.
Although I have no idea if you’re going to come back and read this. *shrug*
yup i did.. thank you for that.. i was an animal control officer.. so i always think the worst of people.. thanks for giving me another way to look at this picture…
No problem. I worked at the local shelter for a while — left more because of the policies and philosophy than the job.
The people here, however, are the ones who give me hope, and remind me that while there are people out there horrible to animals, there are also people out there who love them very much. It helps. {{{{winykittygirl}}}}}
I volunteer at the shelter in my area and 33 Persians came in and had to be shaved because they were so matted that they could not be combed. Persians have translucent skin that is very thin and if you try to cut matts out of their hair it is really dangerouse because you cannot see their skin. They have to be shaved professionally. I now have 7 of them and if they are not brushed almost daily they are a mess. Lots of breeders keep them short like that to avoid the problem. It is called a “lion cut”
perhaps poor kitty had matted(?) fur – so it had to be shaved… There is no other option than shaving. perhaps it is a rescued kitty… So the new owners /rescuers did the only right thing.

“for nothing”? Not when they’re longhaired with persian type fur like that. that kind of fur gets matted the second you look at it, and then the only way to get the knots out is to cut it.
