Well, the inevitable has happened: Napoleon has gone to the bridge. He passed in his sleep, apparently peacefully, this AM while we were at church. We figure he was about 87 in cat years — a good long life for a former street kitty. While I am sad, I can picture him happily reunited with his sisters Cassidy, Spooky, and Muffin in the Meadow, and that makes me feel better.

He had a life of love and comfort, once he found you, and he was a very lucky boy. There are far, far worse fates than to simply fall asleep and not wake up, at an advanced age, home and secure in his own space.

He was so calm that he didn’t even need sedation when he had the echocardiogram that diagnosed his cardiomyopathy five-plus years ago. I like to think he felt secure and loved with us , as I’m sure your kitties do with you and Sean. Hugs to both of you!

Oh Cassidy, I’m so sorry for your loss. I don’t think we’ve met before, but I offer my deepest sympathies – I’ve only been the hoomin servant of kittehs for a year and a half, but the thought of losing one of my girls makes me shudder. I hope that the thought of Napoleon playing happily in the Garden with new and old friends might bring you a little comfort {{Cassidy}}

I’m in agreement with the recent commenter, there seems to have been a complete mis-understanding of the word ironic. To be fair, I really don’t think Alanis Morissete helped with her song which, ironically, totally misused the word ironic.
