ohai booklion, tell your friend thanks!! (lurker friend, if you see this, thank you for the thoughts) I did some research about the constipation, and I’m definitely keeping that in mind. my husband told me he found a larger quantity of more normal-looking diarrhea in the litterbox this morning, which is what makes me think that he’s been experiencing some intestinal irritation and what I saw was kind of the tail end (no pun intended) of it. when he was having his vomiting problems we spent over a thousand dollars on tests with the vet, and they never turned up anything wrong – best guess is that his digestive system is just sensitive and easily irritated. of course, since he always prefers to go outside, it’s hard to tell how long he hasn’t been going normally, but i suspect it’s been a couple of days; his vomiting episodes lasted a week or longer.

so i’m definitely not brushing the problem off, but given his history i’m going to keep a very close eye on him today – any sign of discomfort or blood or anything worsening and he goes straight to the vet, or if he doesn’t start to improve by tomorrow morning. thanks for the input!

taking the animal in immediately–it sounds to me like constipation,
possibly megacolon. The animal gets constipated and just a little loose
diarrhea runs out around the impacted feces. Siegfried had this problem and it was life-threatening.

ohai evreewun, fanks for teh input! i also tawked abowt it wif mr. lunardaddy. sinse dis iz so similar to kumo’s prevyus history (eksept owt teh ovver end, ob corse) an, judging by wut mr. lunardaddy sed him skooped owt ob teh litterbox erly dis morning, it seems to be tapering off, an him not haz any ovver simptoms, i will keep a close eye on him today an if him not starts to improve or gets wurse i will take him to vet tomorrow.

I don’t want to add to ur wurriez,,butt I had a diarrhea, appetite loss, barfin problim wif mai kittehboi.. He wuz on a rownd of antee biotiks an STILL teh sik an loozin weight.. Terns owt he hadda infecshun in his intestinz.. Tehy finlee fownd it wif a culture at teh last minnit. Tehy wus abowt to suggest putting him to sleep. I sed NUFFING wuz gonna happin till after teh culture camed bak.. The x ray showded inflamshun.. Tehy thot it may haz bin teh big “C”. It wuzzint! He needed MOAR antee biotiks agin.. Did ur vet do a culture…? I hope this helps..

ohai my kitteh-luving cheezfrenz, i iz luking for a opinyun or two.

(lolspeek off, too much to write, also TMI ikky stuff)

for a few days Kumo has had icky stuff around the base of his tail and his backside. I suspected a potty problem; also bathed him this morning to try to clean it up. Him did not want, but was reasonably cooperative. after that I heard him scratching around in the litter box and smelled a stinky, but I dug around in there to see what he did and didn’t really see anything. Then he wanted outside (he prefers to Go outside over by the rosebushes) so I went out with him and kept on eye on the proceedings. He proceeded to strain quite a bit and deposit a little bit of kind of mucusy-looking diarhhea. He buried it, walked around a bit, then did it again. Just those two times, then he came back in. His appetite has been off a bit, especially since last night, though he is drinking some water. He also has a history of vomiting problems, first food then the same kind of mucusy-looking stuff when the food is gone; the vet was never able to find anything wrong causing it. So I’m thinking that the diarrhea has been going on for a few days and is kind of winding down, he’s still having irritation but since he’s not eating much there isn’t much left to come out. I’m kind of inclined to wait another day or two to call the vet (though there’s always a part of me that goes OMCCWTFBQB SUMFING’S RONG CALL TEH VET NOW!!!11!11!) given his history and the fact that he doesn’t seem to be experiencing any pain (no complaints during his bath except he didn’t care for the water) or other symptoms. any thoughts, opinions, or advice? kthx!
