In fact, I love the cheezpeeps and this site. I guess I’m a dragon who is very protective of the things that I care about. I’m not worried about the vague threat posted on my site, so I don’t want you to worry about it either. It is just a commentary on what kind of person posts such things…and the original hateful comment that I’m very glad to see is now gone from this thread.

But thanks for putting this in, tessm. It helps everyone else. I think maybe there were even more remarks removed. Some comments don’t quite make sense otherwise.

I feel very honored to have friends like LCB and Arthur to vouch for me and defend my motives when I am not around. I definitely got a warm fuzzy reading what they wrote above. I would also like to thank my dear friends Dragonwriter and Fluffy for not wanting me to be a sole voice speaking out.

I am quite capable of ignoring the person in question; I do so every day. However, sometimes he goes too far. This was one of those times. I very much understand the community here even though I participate infrequently. (I have friends here, and I do try to honor those friendships by commenting occasionally, most during special events.) I do have a history with said person, but as LCB has stated, I did not act out of malice or vengeance, though he has given me plenty of reason to do so. Besides being ill informed on the manners of polite society, the person in question also has a quick temper and shown a desire for physical violence. After I challenged him on a misogynistic remark, he demanded that we meet to fight it out physically. All this doesn’t bother me. It is the verbal abuse he directs at my friends that causes me to speak out. As a current example, after Dragonwriter posted her comment above, this nasty person wrote what could be considered a threat on her Web site. I wrote what I wrote because I want this lovely community to see what some of us on Failblog see.

I look forward to further reading of the clever comments from the fine folks here. (Yes, I enjoy reading lolspeak in small doses.)

When I first went to Failblog I thought the concept was fun and enjoyed it a bit, but there was so much nastiness, hatefulness, and genuine stupidity I couldn’t stand to be there. Once in a while I would check in and then turn away.

I have been visiting more and more often though, because, to my delight, the place has mellowed and become more pleasant and friendly! I am delighted to see that! Thank you, FB regulars, for making it that way.

There are ellebenty-trillion sites on the web where people can go and spew all manner of filth, bile, and insult. How awesome that we have this.

I just feel the need to clarify one more time that my approach to lolspeak is more of a knee-jerk reaction than “looking down” on it. As I said, I just can’t help it.

To NA66 and my other Cheezfrenz: If my reputation as a commenter here means anything to you, please know that the Admiral, DW and Fluffy spoke out of genuine concern for the Cheezpeeps and not out of pettiness or as part of a vendetta against one person. I am friendly with the three of them outside of the blog and will vouch for their fine character and willingness to give people second chances and can validate their mistrust of 5 Eagles. When you question their motives, you question mine.

Indeed, when I saw 5 Eagles begin to post here, I was concerned based on what I had seen of his behavior on FailBlog. I didn’t want my trusting Cheezfrenz to get burned once again after welcoming someone who later turned out to be smallminded and hateful. But I didn’t interfere with his right to post comments here and held my peace until now, when his pattern began to show itself.

Let me also clarify something about Failbloggers. Sadly, because of lack of actual experience with Failblog, many Cheezpeeps ascribe the disdaining, anti-lolcat, anti-everyone attitude to *all* FBers. This is simply not the case.

Although I am first and foremost a Cheezpeep, I spend time on FailBlog, have been made to feel welcome there, and have gotten to know the “culture” fairly well. It is much more complicated than here; yes, there are some “regulars” on FB who indeed look down on this site and on lolspeak yet there are others who are parallel to us in playful and kind-hearted spirit. When I speak of my “FailBlog friends” I refer to this second group. There is also, as someone else noted, a much higher incidence of drive-by tr0lls there. So you can’t characterize the whole community just from a few quick visits.

The Admiral, Dragonwriter, Fluffy, and even Arthur are all in the second group, i.e. the “there but for the use of lolspeak go us” crowd. If you are a kind, considerate person they will laugh and cry with you, offer comfort when you’re down and defend you when you are attacked. If you are belligerent and/or make r@cist or s3xist remarks, they will call you on it. Just like the best of Cheezpeeps.

I just want to toss in a word about LOLspeak. I wish you woudn’t think of it as “language butchering.” It’s is so far from that – and it always distresses me greatly when people think that.

I’m glad to hear you don’t think we are morons. As I have also often read in other places. What most people don’t realized is that it takes a VERY high level of intelligence to keep up with what we do here. And a lot of creativity.

Much of what we are doing with the language (and it is not English – it’s LOLspeaK) is playing with it – finding new and different ways to say things and express ourselves – that can be funnier than any “proper” use of the language. It’s seeing things in an entirely different light.

One of our best users of LOLspeak is a very famous and popular British comics illustrator. He’s also a writer – and very, very funny. But what he could do in LOLspeak left one positively breathless with admiration.

It’s true. You have to learn it. And some people are far better at it than others. But – the general intelligence and education level here is extremely high. I would say over half of our people speak more than one language. I myself am also fluent in German, and can converse in Italian, make myself understood in French and Spanish, and have studied Russian and Latin. Well, I studied the others, too!

For most of us here, it’s BECAUSE we love languages and humor that we do this. And the bonus is wonderful friends and companions.

Oh, I forgot to say that we gave 5 eagles more like 10 chances. You see, he declared “war” on the Admiral, on me and I think on at least one more person. He made räcist remarks like “I understand that white people make the rules here”, hence calling us räcist (he said he is a native Canadian) by insinuating we treated him differently because of his heritage. And, not to forget, several on FB felt insulted by some se xist comments 5 eagles also made.

Sure, she has that right. But to me it looked kinda strange to see that reaction in the given context, especially since she seemed to be uninformed about the aftermath of the invasion (that indeed turned out to be a welcome coming together – later on) and about what FB is and is not. Dunno if you know, but it’s pretty much the same on FB like it is here – friends who love to joke around, enjoy each other’s presence and all that (although I heard that it was different before my time on FB started, which was almost a year ago). Difference is that there’s more troll influx on FB, hence more often either troll whacking or cake time (we copied that from you folks).

For the above reason I absolutely understand what the Admiral and other FB regulars like about this site and I would too – if it wasn’t for the language. No offense, but I can’t stand lolspeak, maybe ’cause learning normal English was hard enough for me. I consider it language butchering, but that surely doesn’t mean I consider you folks morons or whatever.

So thank you for replying in non-lolspeak, it makes it much easier for me.

As for 5 Eagles. I understand he may have a history (acknowledged), but on ICHC, peeps often get second chances for reasons less that what I proposed.

BGC was a little (little) aggressive yes, but in the context of second chances, it was not inappropriate, and she should have as much right as the Admiral to express her opinion.

I have a hard time understanding what you wrote, I’m a little dyslexic when it comes to lolspeak. However, I’d like to point out two things: First of all, the Admiral wasn’t a part of our invasion a couple of months ago. In fact, he and Dragon were among those telling us invaders that we behaved inappropriately, which made every single one of us apologize to you folks. Of course, it’s up to each of you whether to accept that apology or not, but I’d say hold the Admiral accountable for what he did, not for what others did.

Secondly, 5 eagles is no stranger to us at FB. He’s been around for maybe half a year and has quite often made comments that were … questionable, to say the least. You see, plenty of us gave him the benefit of doubt, again and again, but apparently without effect. The Admiral was speaking out to him, not just because his comment appeared to be one of his disgusting moments, but also because he did it here, in a community which the Admiral obviously values.

I think BGCMEOWRRRR’s comment – as far as I understood it – was a little too aggressive towards the Admiral, especially since he was trying to assist you folks. Sure, you’re free to call that assistance unnecessary. But wouldn’t it then still be the Admiral’s right to voice his opinion?

Thirdly, the blog will most likely nest correctly in awhile. That happens sometimes when people get banned.
