I saw the same video, and he was doing the classic foot-push, not a kick. Those of us with pushy cats sometimes have to do a foot-push or an off-the-counter drop. It does no harm…it doesn’t even tick them off or teach them to stay off of the counter, unfortunately!

Good on the officer for taking it in stride! It’s too rare to see them doing the right thing these days, but this guy has earned my respect.

He did not kick it. He nudged it away with his foot. The cat was not hurt.
(And it’s not “rare” for cops to do the right thing. Most of them are honest, hardworking folks, same as the rest of us. It’s just that the media only tells you about the bad ones.)
I was saddened when I first watched it but I think you and willy boy are right, I don’t think he meant to hurt the kitteh at all and the kitteh wasnt hurt anyway so it’s all good. I can imagine the policeman might be annoyed, it’s kind of hard to be taken seriously with a kitteh crawling all over you!
My thought is that he must have cats at home to be so patient with the little critter.
In a news article I read, the cop said the person he’d pulled over was pretty amused.
I am so relieved that kitteh is ok and the officer didn’t mean any harm. I was a little freaked out at first.

Just saw the whole video — a “foot nudge” is NOT a kick! Also, I can think of worse distractions to a police officer than being “attacked” by a friendly LOLcat. If you look close enough, the officer is smiling. He should be smiling; it probably made his day. Cat hair is removable; some things aren’t.
Former law enforcement — If this would have happened to me?
1. I would have excused myself, and removed the kitten gently.
2. If it was a stray, either take it home myself or, just for grins, ask the motorist if they would like a free cat.
if i don’t foot-push Spooky or Snowflake away from me at certain times, they either get into mischief or i fall down and break my ass trying NOT to trip over them, especially when they decide to try wrapping themselves around my ankles when i am desperately trying to get to the restroom
That cop knew cats! He tolerated and enjoyed the kit, knew how to move it off his chest and onto his shoulder, and finished his job in a professional way, even with a cat on his head. When the cat wouldn’t leave, he picked it up with his foot and gently tossed it. Gave at a slightly more definitive kickoff at one point, but only to make it pay attention. That cat was NOT hurt, and they both clearly enjoyed the encounter! Nice cat, nice cop!
I hope that kitten has a home… If not, I hope somebody adopts the little guy!
