kittehs prefer to do what the hooman wants and feel sad when it doesn’t work out that way — but hoomans shouldn’t leave good prey out loose to be predated on.
actually, kittehs can have a very advanced sense of ethics about this.
i used to live with two kittehs, one was a very efficient mouser, and left me a present of choice squishy mouse bits on the floor most mornings (he also did the ‘teaching me to catch mice thing once).
the other kitteh was somewhat dopey, and managed to catch a mouse once, but i think he wanted to keep it as a pet (i found him trying to snuggle with it in front of the fire and looking hurt when it tried to run away.)
one occasion, i ended up with a mouse living in the kitchen – i assume dopey cat had brought it home, then put it down and forgot about it.
a few days later, i heard much meowing from the kitchen. killer kitteh had caught mouse, and was holding it carefully by the tail – he obviously wasn’t sure he was allowed to kill it (since it lived in the house) and wanted me to come and make a decision for him. he let me take the mouse off him and put it out…
