Thanks for your reply. I thought maybe it was to do with ticks & bugs you have in the US that we don’t in the UK. My cats were only happy to pick up fleas. Had a beautiful seal point Siamese some years ago who visited a local chicken coop & came home with so many lodgers that infested the whole house.

Just a (stupid?) question from an English woman who has kept cats (& dogs) for nearly fifty years. Why do you need to bath cats? I used to show Afghans & they were bathed & groomed regularly, my cats were groomed but never bathed.

My cats go freakin nuts when I try to give them baths. They don’t just do the big eyes. Well, one of them doesn’t anyway. She, without fail, takes a big crap on the floor of the tub every… single… time. Even if she just got out of the litter box she manages to rustle up some new turds for me to clean, as some sort of vengeance for washing her.

She’s kind of a scaredy cat anyway though. She slinks from hiding spot to hiding spot in the house and won’t go near doors.

My orange tabby Obiwan is the best natured cat in the world. He purrs his way through everything, and I’ve only heard him hiss ONCE – at the vet. Vet needed two people to hold him down to look in his mouth. The other thing he’s very touchy about is clipping his back feet nails. I’ve slowly gotten him used to my handling his feet but have never succeeded with his mouth. He was a rescue kitty and must have had trauma in his past.
Anyhow, I had to give him a bath two nights ago. He had some diarrhea and his rear end fur was dirty. I tried using a sponge, and chased him all over the house, finally gave up and grabbed him and held his butt under the sink and washed madly with ivory soap. He was highly indignant, but didn’t wail or hiss. I had to chase him all over the house with the towel, but within minutes, he was up on my bed headbumping me and purring loudly.
He’s amazing.
