Just got the latest on Elsa_Mama’s Matt
Well, OK. Matt’s white blood count went up from .3 on Monday to 1.8 today. This is the first time it has gone up in almost 3 months. The hospice nurse says – that number does not make any sense. But, this is what we were looking for with the new treatment. So, that is good news. 30% of those white cells are immature blasts (bad white cells) – but that still leaves him with about 1/4 the normal amount of white cells. A huge improvement.
What does this mean? I do not know. No one knows. We do know that Matt is still VERY sick. More blood was drawn and Dr. Canner will be looking at it tomorrow and talking with the doctor with the new treatment.
There is still concern about the pressure in his brain and how to treat the blasts since he is so sick. But, something is happening and I choose to be excited about it. More tomorrow.
Oooh- ai hope dis iz good news for Matt. Thanks for the update- beems on for Matt and Elsa Mama!
I hope so too. The problem is that the new medicine can do everything it is suppose to do, but Matt could still die. He is so sick and the past treatments (very nasty intense chemo) have done such a number on him that he could die from many many things. But, I will be happy if the new medicine works so that maybe other people can benefit and maybe the doctors will agree to try it before the patient is at death’s door.

I’ve had kitties for years, don’t take this the wrong way but sometimes it’s time to let them pass. Ask yourself, are you keeping your baby here for him or for you? The greatest responsibility we have as caretakers is ebing able to know when the “time” has come and making sure that we do the responsible thing. I’ve had to do that with five of my babies over the years, two from cancer after chemo etc. and regret nothing. I was a great caretaker and did my best. Just food for thought. I hope all is well and he recovers but please, understand, if you are just buying him a couple months and he’ll be sick and ill that whole time – let him go.
And please, comment people, grow the heck up and speak English, not lolspeak,your lolspeak makes this seem like some kind of joke or game, it isn’t. This poor baby is very ill and likely needs to be let go. Cancer does not often go into full remission in cats and it can be very bad for the kitty. Please treat this with respect.
