Cats, like dogs, don’t have the natural enzymes needed to break down plant cell walls. This means they get no nutrition from veggies.

Also, there are plenty of ways to get fresh (immediately frozen after kill) whole prey for cats commercially and many other ways privately.

I’m sorry you’re so misinformed.
Cats nor dogs intentionally eat the contents of the digestive tract of their kills (obviously if the kill is small, it gets eaten with the rest of the animal). They do not *need* vegetation and actually can’t break it down (which is why misguided “barf” feeders blend veggies to make “glop”). Cats, like dogs, may graze on grass or herbs and *may* get a digestive benefit (and should be allowed to do so) but there’s no *nutritional* benefit.

Store bought meats, while not being *ideal,* are *FAR BETTER* than any commercial cat food on the market. There is zero room for argument.

It’s not that hard to help your kitty to lose weight on a proper carnivore diet. For more info do research start with catinfo.org by a vet on this issue. my cat became diabetic on premium dry food, turns out dry food can cause diabetes and obesity since there is no digestible nutrition in it — cats are carnivores and need meat — i get nature’s variety raw, but canned can be okay — catinfo has good info (no sales) and good food chart to see how many carbs your food has (cats don’t need carbs)… i’m getting my cat off insulin by diet change and home monitoring…

Cats evolved to eat freshly killed animals, not ones from the grocery store that have been dead for days and handled by countless hands. That’s fine for humans, since we cook (mostly) everything we eat, but not for cats. Not only that but cats DO need some vegetables to get complete nutrition – which, in the wild, they get from eating the digestive tracts of herbivores. Storebought meat, even organ meats, has all these parts removed.

Be very careful putting a cat on a weight-loss diet. They can develop fatty liver, which is expensive to treat and can be fatal.

If nothing seems to work for getting him to a normal weight, check out the possibility of switching him to a raw meat, organ and bones only diet… usually things like excess weight correct themselves within a couple of months on a raw diet, and it’s so much better for them than commercial dry…

Please do not assume an owner is overfeeding a fat kitty. We have had a number of cats, none overweight until we got Hobie. He checks out fine at the vet with all his bloodwork, etc, but we have tried numerous things to get him to lose his weight, none worked. The vet said let nature take it’s course. He is NOT over fed but he was pushing the other cat (9 lbs) and the DOG off their dishes and eating everything in sight. He eats like an obsession. He goes outside and catches his own ‘fast food’to eat. We limit his proportions and do not table feed. Sometimes no matter what you try it will not work.

Not really. I have a cat who fights just like the fat cat in the video, except he’s not fat– he’s just super-lazy. He can’t be arsed to do most “essence of being a kitteh” things, he’ll play for about five seconds before getting bored, he’ll chase one of his sisters for about half a foot then stop, etc. He never starts any of the cat battles in this house, but by God he will finish them, just like fat cat in this video when she got annoyed and got her back feet into it.

Low-key cat=/=bird with clipped wings.

Cute video, but when I see how happy my cat is that she is fast and agile, it makes me sad to see cats that are so overweight that they’ve lost that core essence of being a kitteh. I bet it frustrates them that they can’t do the things they used to… like a bird with clipped wings.
