OMFG
One: The vast majority of vegetarians and vegans do not force their diet onto their companion animals. We recognize that cats actually do need meat to be healthy, whereas we’re better off, health- and energy-wise, without it.
Two: I am vegan primarily out of concern for animal welfare. That means I give the same consideration to farm animals as I do to the cute and cuddly animals I live with. What a being experiences is what matters. I wouldn’t have a moral (but perhaps a visceral) objection to consuming products from animals that have been humanely treated (don’t believe the labels, people!). So, I would not feed my cat a cheeseburger with meat and dairy from an animal with an EQUAL ABILITY TO FEEL PAIN that had lived a TERRIBLE life (as most on factory farms, where most fast food meat comes from, do). I DO, however, give my cat turkey from sources that I know actually treated the animals well.
Three: This may come as news to some of you, but cheeseburgers are very unhealthy! The cat is better off with leaner meat, with perhaps something so fatty given as a small, occasional treat. To love an animal is to care for it.
You people who think it’s mean not to give that cat a burger are due for some serious self-reflection. You probably think you’re animal lovers, don’t you? You’re NOT.
Compassion should be based on what a being experiences, not how cute it is!

I think that the people who frequent this site are likely to take better care of their pets (mostly cats) than most other people take care of themselves or their kids.
