My Mom’s cat f’d my arm up pretty bad. He was attacking my laptop while I was playing this video, and I was trying to get it out the way to close it. He totally bit my wrist and scratched the heck out of my arm. He went nuts, I have never seen him *that* puffed up before.

That’s precisely what I thought, when I heard it… cat in heat. My cats used to do the same yodel, along with a lot of contortionist positions. Our newest babykat Aria is a singer, though – big long meows. So I’m dreading her coming into heat the first time!

Probably the cat is saying “Get that damn camera off my face!” Something up close is clearly making him uncomfortable although not exactly scared, hence the dilated pupils, moaning and licking the nose. The next step might be to lash out a paw with nails exposed. At our house this is clearly a warning to back off.

I’m surprised by the lack of expression reading skills here from people with cats. The cat’s not just pleasantly talking away, in heat or in pain. Just annoyed and uncomfortable psychologically.

This had the doggies at my house quite confused. Of course, they gave the same reaction to the high pitched baby talk as they did to the poor kitty.

On another note, I used to have a cat who would meow like that when she thought she wasn’t getting enough attention, when her food bowl was empty, when I was on the phone, etc. This kitty could be in pain, or she could just want suggles. I’m sure the kitty mama who was doing the filming knows the difference between “I’m in distress, help me NOW” and “I’m in distress, cuddle me NOW”
