You can put nylon strings on a steel guitar but putting steel strings on a nylon guitar will destroy the neck / fretboard / soundboard over time.

Actually, nylon isn’t for beginners. There are nylon guitars and steel guitars. Many experienced guitarists actually prefer the sound of nylon strings. Each guitar have a tune of their own, and you can’t put steel strings on a nylon guitar and nylon strings on a steel guitar.. kindof xD

My grandfather was born and raised in Ballymena in what is now Northern Ireland. He also spent some time working in Scotland before coming to the United States. He told us once that in the Old Country whenever they were going to have a parade and were short a set of bagpipes that they would just go into the alley and grab a cat. They would put the cat’s tail in their mouth and wiggle his legs back and forth. He said you couldn’t tell the difference. My grandfather told some great tall tales.

Nylon is for beginners? lol…. not quite. Nylon strings are for classical guitars, not for beginners. Steel strings are simply for standard acoustic guitars.

actually they usually use steel strings. Nylon is for beginners because its less harsh on your finger ends when fretting, then once your fingers harden you can move to steel.
