Look, I’m a native English speaker, and spend most of my time teaching other people to speak my language. I love my native language quite passionately. I’m also well aware that to an outsider it’s extremely confusing. “How do you pronounce this?” “Cough.” “And this?” “Rough.” “And this?” “Dough.” “. . .” To say that English is full of illogic is not to show any disrespect to the language; it’s just acknowledging that to an untrained observer, it seems strange at first.
I live in Korea, and when I first came here the written form of the language was an impenetrable collection of syllables. This does not mean I thought Korean was a fake, stupid, or made-up language; it just looked like gibberish to me. No one is saying that Welsh is stupid, or not a real language; they are just saying that to an untrained person it’s impossible to read.
(And, by the way, being supersensitive and disallowing jokes isn’t going to help people become more familiar with your language; it’s just going to make people think that you’re really sensitive about it. If you really want to promote understanding, why don’t you acknowledge the difficulty Welsh can present to outsiders, laugh cheerfully about the confusion inherent in second-language study, and get to educatin’? As is evidenced by this entire thread, the vast majority of people here find languages fascinating and would love to learn more about yours.)

I am actually studying Welsh right now (or should be, it’s on another window), and really enjoy it. I also enjoyed this lolcat and am taking it in tomorrow. We have made jokes about some sort of similar incident creating the Welsh language, and to see that we’re not the only ones lets us know that we’re not completely crazy, even though we probably are.

Welsh doesn’t look like someone hit the keyboard at random? If you don’t know what it means, sure it does. We have vowels that in English (or most other languages, for that matter) AREN’T vowels, for a start.
And I’m sure you would know, but unfortunately I’m also Welsh. I speak other languages too, and I fully back this Lol for its accuracy.
