    No, no, NO! Sure, it’s fun to watch, but it just ain’t right. A cat that willingly does tricks is an animal without pride or dignity….in other words, a dog. (Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs, but watch an average dog for a day and just try to identify anything resembling dignity).

    Did you see ‘Maru and the Big Box’? it’s in theribbon of videos under the food catchin kitteh (and BTW I too thought it was gonna be the fud catchin the cat, so if ur crazee, ur not alone.) Maru has a hysterical style of jumping:most cats launch with back feet and touch down with front feet first. Maru gets impressive hang time at the apex of the jump, and then turns a bit and lands back feet first or all four at once. And when he/she jumps out, it looks like he/she’s being thrown out the box.

    My mom’s cat used to not only catch kitteh snacks with his paws and stuff them into his mouth, but would also jump up to catch them (with his paws) in midair, and if he’d miss he’d play soccer with them for a bit before eating them. His eyesight is deteriorating due to cataracts–no pun intended–so he doesn’t catch them much anymore, and he’s getting too old for those “nothing but net” leaps, but he still chases snacks if we toss them on the floor ‘cuz he can follow the sound. And by golly, he always tracks them down. AND can still beat the tar out of his 5-pounds-heavier baby brudder when the whippersnapper needs to be taken down a peg. Needless to say, the dogs we occassionally babysit either show the proper respect for the old boy or get schooled in the art of how to worship a striped deity in short order. All hail Kelly!
