Sphynx cats like this are the result of a naturally-occurring mutation. Has nothing to do with humans doing anything to them.
They aren’t completely hairless, either. They have peach fuzz all over them and they feel soft like a chamois cloth.

Cat is a species. Sphynx is a breed. A mutation occurs very rarely. Many years of human intervention made this breed. So I stand by my original question, “Why would people do this to cats?”
What kind of a question is that? Nobody ~did this~ initially. As was stated before, it’s naturally occurring. As for the decision to breed them- they were alternated between hairless and fur cats during the breeding process so that they had a large-enough gene pool.
As someone with a Sphynx who is allergic, I’m glad someone ~did this~, because that way I can actually have a cat.
Sphynx, Cornish Rex and Devonshire Rex aer eiber hairless or very very close to it. Mayks dem eezy to bave – no shampoo needed! – but it duz nuffing for deir luuks.
