My ex-husband emailed me today. His Granny J has been under the care of Hospice since Friday. To put it bluntly, she’s dying and isn’t expected to make it much longer.
Granny J was a wonderful woman who treated me like family from the minute she met me – in 1986.
Because she is in Tennessee an heavily medicated, I will not be able to go see her. Also, I probably won’t be able to attend her funeral either.

I know it’s tough dealing with a parent about to die (been there, did that – still cry about it occasionally 12 1/2 years later), but I can’t give any words of wisdom specifically on the Alz thing.
What I CAN say is that you should not worry about speaking up here — there are lots of people to hold your paw & comfort you & let you get stuff out of your system. It’s amazing how putting things into words, either verbal or written, can help clear the mind.
We are here for you, whether you need to talk or laugh or cry or just sit and think.

I also really enjoyed the warped humor in “como agua para chocolate” (Like water for chocolate) (i.e. very hot!) by Laura Esquivel. It was also made into a movie a while ago- one of the few that I watched several times, and laughed hysterically every time. It takes a ridiculous situation, and then exaggerates it to the point of being ludicrous – much like some of the comment threads here!
