my mama rilly did has shoos patch’d wif card bored on da insieds (during da dpression), that is when they had shoes passe’d down from kid to kid,
adn wore clothes made from cloth flour saks. srsly. forchunatelyee , the 10 kids adn dere momma (dere daddy, who had werk’d on da raylrode had died frm noomonya) live’d in Mississippi, so didn’t get too cold. Those were some skinny kids.

You know what though? *brightens*

I had a super dream about him not long ago.

You know, I don’t know about other people, but I cannot “feel” stuff in my
dreams, unless it is external, like, the cold or something.

But I dreamed about Grandpa….I was in a place with him, and it was busy,
lots of people moving about,…don’t know where, but I was following him.

At one point I put my hand on his upper bicep…and I could FEEL IT. It was
very strong and I realized he was back at the prime of his life, physically, and
that made me so happy…..

He called out to someone that I was his granddaughter and suddenly, it
occurred to me for the first time in my life…that he was PROUD OF ME…he
was saying in effect,,…look, Kafleenthedonkey is my granddaughter…

this makes me teary thinking about it again…

he was always such a hard worker and I was so lazy and fat and never made
anything of myself, and I always felt ashamed around him….he grew up in
poverty, was pulled out of school in third grade to work the farm, left as a kid
to ride the trains and find work, never learned how to read, had 10 kids, and
when he died, they all got some money. And grandma had enough too. They
never lived rich but they worked their @$$es off and became comfortable.
And he bought and sold things. He was smart.

that was the best dream. It made a kind of peace for me with him.
