ICHC is full of all kinds of people, the only common bond is that we all love our kitties. Now, you seem to be entirely missing the point. we know that all cats hate being dressed up and all that too. We just like it because it’s funny, It hasn’t been overused at all. You also forget that no picture makes it to the front page without being voted on first. Now by your logic, this must mean that there are a lot of dim-witted moms out there, which I frankly find preposterous. Also, “base level cuteness”? have you even been out here? only once in a blue moon does a purely cuteness-based picture show up. This site is dedicated to the spirit of comedy.

Oh and one other thing: do. not. f***ing. blame. all. mediocrity. on. moms.
there are many reasons why ICHC went through a slump. and the largest one was young kids who took lolspeak as an excuse to spell badly and use bad grammar. Now shut up and leave.

Someone above spoke the truth. Moms (and I am one) have taken the edge off of ICHC. Witness the kittieh with the kissie on his head. And the caption something like “Grandma Kisses.” WOW! How witty is that? But, theoretically, what appears on the front page is voted on by the masses.

Something needs to be done to bring back the FUNNY.

Advertisers can only buy what’s available, you know. I very much doubt there’d ever be more than one inline ad slot available at once.

The one on CO is only running for a limited time, btw. Meg actually told me when it was due to expire, but it was late and I forgot.

Look, I express my disdain to my Vet for the very same reason you bring up; she posts advertisements in the office that appear as entertainment, or factoids or whatever, but they’re there to get me to buy pet insurance that I don’t need or food that’s not necessarily any better for the animal even if it is “organic” and whatever. That same disdain I feel towards newspapers or any other medium, including animal blogs, that don’t disclose their interest in a particular article or post. Blogs are trusted sources these days and they should feel obliged to maintain certain editorial standards. Something less obnoxious may have slid under the radar, but this post on this site is unfunny and obviously just there to drive traffic to a third party site.

I agree with you to some extent, re: advertising that looks like regular content. You’re right, that’s why we added our own “ADVERTISEMENT” disclaimer (after some folks requested it). But I’d call this hybrid advertising. It’s a highly-targeted premium ad, formatted to fit into the local context. So somebody put forth a little effort here… though not with great success, I’ll concede. It’s the sort of thing you see on a poster in your dentist’s office, next to the little “Hang In There” kitten.

ANYhow. Not my house either. But I deal with this regularly, elsewhere.

I don’t mind the ads, coz I know they go to pay for this site and some of wot is advertised is directed to the type uf folks dat visit heer, But I don’t like it when pop-ups and floaties invade my screen — and I definitely don’t want anyone here to get hurt by puter viruses. Especially Cheez and Tofu who work hard to make this site fun!

I’ve come to accept paying for my content by looking at ads on sites, no need to censor my comments. At least on CO it clearly says “advertisement” over the post. If you thought my “diaf” was anything but snarky internet banter then I apologize, I wish neither you nor the makers if this film anything but the best.

…they did not, I note, have the courage to leave the comments turned on for it, however.

I’m going to side with the masses on this one: if you want to advertise your unbelievably crappy movie, buy space over in the increasingly-large advertising space on the site – NOT THE CONTENT AREA.

If you /absolutely must/ advertise your unbelievably crappy movie, at least try and make your caption sound less like a Hallmark card for somebody’s brain-damaged daughter.

There are two glaring problems with this “submission”: First, it’s not funny, especially in the way ICHC readers expect. The photo is passably cute if overly staged, but the caption (oops, capshun) is Ziggy-like in its saccharin lifelessness and the synergy between the two is non-existent. Bereft of typical ICHC appeal, it sticks out like the proverbial sore thumb/paw compared to the other pics. Which leads to the second problem; It can’t possibly have made it to the main page without being a paid-for advertisement. It even credits Paramount as well as the movie and links to the movie’s website. The very disappointing ICHC book also seemed driven more by greed than content, but at least it was/is separate from the site. By putting this bald-faced ad on the main page, you’ve spat in the eye of every contributor to whom you owe a debt of gratitude.

Shame on you, ICHC. A Disheartening Sellout.
