I feel badly that in going for one joke I totally missed another aspect of the subject that has such a bad connotation. Most of the comments I make here, especially those that are intended for the “first” spot, come from split-second free association. I had recently seen “The Right Stuff” and so the hatch-blowing incident was fresh in my mind so seeing a caption that intentionally or not echoed lines from the film sealed the deal. Because it was a “first” comment I didn’t elaborate as much as I might have elsewhere. I hope my subsequent explanation clarified that no ill will or disrespect was meant to anyone living or dead. I certainly understand that not everyone made the same first association as I did with the name I mentioned in my comment. All I ask in return is the same understanding.

To all who came to my defense and sent such kind and loving notes and e-cards: That means a tremendous great deal to me. Seriously. I love you guys. Of course, I never planned to go away forever; I just needed a time-out. I come here mainly for fun and escapism. There is no point in hanging around when neither is available and I found neither last night so I left.

Catsablanca: You handled yourself graciously, asking for clarification without casting aspersions then you acknowledged the clarification and indicated understanding and acceptance of same when it was given. I appreciate that.

Catalogical Humor: My comments come from me and not from the thin air, so when you disapprove of my comments, you disapprove of me. I responded accordingly. I had already explained myself when you commented so I felt attacked when you posted disapproval of my comment (and, by extension, me) without apparently giving me the benefit of the doubt and without asking for an explanation if you hadn’t seen one or acknowledging the explanation already given if you had seen it. Additionally, I do not like being told what I “shoulda” said, especially when there was an apparent assumption that I was even familiar with the movie I “shoulda” quoted from. I hope my explanation of my original comment did not give anyone the impression that they “shoulda” been familiar with the source of my quote, because I certainly did not have that expectation.
