On Christmas day, “it was always customary in those days to catch peoples Christmas gifts and they would give you something.” Slaves and children would lie in wait for those with the means to provide presents and capture them, crying ‘Christmas gift’ and refusing to release their prisoners until they received a gift in return.”

It goes on to say that some slaves eventually buyed their freedom wif moneys they gotted from this ritual.

Yay, Queen Tut!

The only other time I’ve heard of teh tradition of saying “Christmas Gift!” was when reading a biography of Harriet Tubman when I was a lolkittenburglar. It was tradition for teh slaves on teh plantation to greet the plantation owner on Christmas Day with “Christmas Gift, Master!” and they were rewarded with a small gift of some sort. That doesn’t sound too happy when u rly think about it, but mabye teh greeting was a Southern tradition in those days?

I used to work wif a lady whose sisters and her would try to be teh first one to call each other up on teh first of every month and say “Rabbits, rabbits, rabbits!” She didnot knoes why they dids that, but it was teh fun for them.

(I is watching teh “A Christmas Story” and when I was riting that paragraph about rabbits, it was teh scene wif Ralphie in teh bunny soot!)

Ghristmas Gift! (that’s a family custom of ours, to greet on Christmas morning by being the first to say to the other, “Christmas Gift!” don’t know the origin)

My ex-feral, Queen Tut, gave me a Christmas gift this morning. She has been sleeping in the corner of my room for a few days now (the other two on top of me, Tut on a pile of laundry in the corner) and when I got up and went into the bathroom, she followed and let me reach down and skritch her. This was a first!
