The first Merriam Webster dictionary definition of “holocaust” is “a sacrifice consumed by fire.” As a few other cheezpeepz as pointed out, the quote is a reference to the film “The Princess Bride,” where the cloak in question is simply a cloak that can safely be set on fire without the wearer getting burnt. It has absolutely nothing to do with the capital “h” Holocaust. The word doesn’t get used to mean its original definition much precisely because most people now understand it to refer to that terrible and tragic historical event. I hope that clears things up for you.

I wuz a liddle suspryzed at how many hats de wyley Miel camed up wif. Dat wuz just the bear part of muh wyfe’s critter collection, the others are now complainin dat wanna be famous too. She has over a dozen critter and dey all luvs her and dey all abyoose me. They calls me ‘the fat guy’ and they blame me fer stuff. Last weekend as I was trine to stuff Rosco into his winter pants he told muh wyfe dat I had tounched him inappropriately. When the kawps arrived they all went into stufft animal mode and dint say nuffin so I hadda come up wiff sumtin the poleese would beleef.

Y’know, my first thought when I read the letter (right after hugging Sean) was to come tell my friends. Thank you x elebenty-gazillions for being here and being you and, oh, everything.

I’d be in much worse shape if I didn’t have a plan at least starting in January. There is no earthly reason why I should be unable to get a student loan for then. At least we aren’t going to end up on the streets, the rent will get paid. We just somehow need to keep the kitties in gushifood and pay the ISP until the next intake at the college.

Since I finally found the USB flash drive that Trick stole on me, I can finish up some transcription I’m doing, and I’ll get paid a bit for that, which will help. We’re both pretty resourceful when we have to be. It’s just… an awful lot of extra stress when I was actually starting to feel not so bad again.

Been bugging the hospital. About the only person officially allowed to talk to me about anything is the occupational health nurse who has my case — HR keeps telling me to go talk to her every time I try to discuss anything with them. I just let her know about the letter. She’s very nice, I like her a lot, but she can’t make a job materialize if one doesn’t open up. They aren’t going to create a new position for me, so some one has to leave from an appropriate position first. It’s not the most intelligent and well-planned system in the world. :/

Here, let me hold you up in the sunlight where it is warm and comfy and anxiety evaporates. I’ve been off work for 7 weeks due to depression and my company and my health insurance were very good about it. Unfortunately, I live in Germany where these things are probably organized in a different way.

I urge you to get all help and advice you can get. And counselling, I hope you have a good therapist. Depressions don’t go away just like colds, but like any other disease, they can be treated. I wish you all the best and you know where to go when you need friends and advice and some hugs.

Know that you are loved and appreciated for who you are.

Can you hurry up the hospital on finding you a position? I know it’s hard to make yourself do anything when you are in the grips of depression. Concentrating on one step at a time, one positive move at a time, does help. Is there a human resources (or whatever the Canadian equivalent is) counselor at the hospital who can help you, either with getting a new position, or with getting benefits?
