I can try catnip… I don’t know that she’s in heat. I just think she’s used to being outside, and is uncomfortable being shut indoors in one room.

Cliff notes: I has been getting teh strays around my house fixed for teh last 3 month doing a TNR program.
I alreddy has 3 indoor kittehs, 2 old ladies I has had for 12 1/2 years, and one noo one that was a stray I ‘dopted in August. So there’s been bedlam in teh house wif teh 2 old girls adjusting to the new ‘teenager kitteh’… no way I cud let momma and bebbehs loose wif dem, it wud be a bludbath, ifinkso!!!
I ment, I know u is not noo, really, but just noo to me.
Letting a stressed out mommacat loose with three other cats who are alreayd having territorial issues… nawt so gud, akshully. Even assuming that Mommacat doesn’t have anything unpleasant to pass on to your old ladies or teenager.

I did take hur and teh bebbehs in abt 3 weeks ago, tested mom for FeLV and FIV, b/c I didn’t want to give away kittens dat weren’t healfy. (3 of teh 5 kittehs I’ve trapped were FeLV +.) Mommeh was neg. and immunized. 1 of teh kittens had conjunctivitis, I had teh medicine, but she moved tehm 2 days later (not b/c of me or teh vet, but b/c a frend of mine came over and had to see them, and she got spooked by a stranger handling her bebbehs) anyways, 2 of them has teh conjunctivitis now, dat’s anotter reason I’m reluctant to let them owt, I know they needs teh medi sin.

I have no idea if she’s in heat, but if she is, she’s likely to be crouching down a lot with her tummy low and her bum in the air, and she’ll keep shifting her weight from one back leg to the other. I only mentioned it as a possible way to distract her. I know all cats are different, but mine tend to fall asleep for a while after a good nip high.
As far as I know, there’s no reason why she can’t go into heat while she’s nursing. Cats are terribly prolific little monsters once they get breeding. *sigh*

well as soon as these r weened, she’s getting spayd, wether she’s bin nocked up or not. I fink they’re abowt zactlee about 4 wks old so only another 2 weeks maybes.

If it’s at all possible, keep the kittens in, even if you have to let her out for a bit. If they’re about 4 weeks old, they don’t need nursing every couple of hours anymore, and they can at least go to the toilet by themselves without needing help. If the kittens are still in, then she’ll certainly come back. I’ve forgotten where you are and I’m too lazy to look at the map, how long is it until breakfast?
And maybe that’s what she wants, is for you to keep her babies
safe for her while she’s out doing her thing.

Hm. At this age, if you’re pretty sure they’re 4 weeks or so, probably every 6 to 8 hours is often enough for them to nurse… you could maybe even try offering them a little bit of wet food mixed with water into stuff they can just lap, just to let them explore it. After all, a depressing number of people give kittens to pet stores at 5 weeks old.
Mom will be home to feed them, but you aren’t likely to be up at 2 or 4 am, I assume… drat. *thinks* I’m not an expert, I just keep ending up with cat situations in my life, and I’m trying to figure out what I’ve been through that might help with this.
Definitely she had them over Labor Day weekend, which was 4 weeks ago Imprettyshure.

No problem. I’m always ready to help with kitteh issues, to whatever extent I can (sometimes more than others). So they should be fine without her for a while, but that would make it the wee hours by the time she was ready to come back to nurse…

Is this a first floor room with a window you can pop the screen out of or something, so she can come and go to her babies overnight?
If she seems pretty happy with them being there, she’s not likely to move them overnight. Then maybe you could deal with the worst of the howling tomorrow during the day, or something… I don’t know. I’m sort of groping around for ideas here, trying to think outside the box.
The basic facts are: the kittens will be fine not nursing for 6 to 8 hours, and are at an age when they’re likely to be curious about other food. Mom will come back for her babies no matter what. What you can do with those facts, unfortunately, depends on what you can reasonably arrange.

I had roommate who had a young girlkitteh.
I had 2 fixed boykittehs. She came into heat, and the boys were interested even tho they were fixed. The older boy, my Nermal who is over the Bridge now, had no canine teeth (had gum infection) and could not get a grip on the scruff of her neck properly to hold her still.
Loki was not very old, and he got so berry-berry-eggsited! He kept trying to, er, make bebbeh-kittehs with her, and we let him because it distracted her.
But he kept getting soooo excited that he would paw at base of her spine with one back paw, then the other (like he’s supposed to, to get her to move her tail) , then BOTH back paws at once, and fall over. She got very annoyed with him for that. He finally figured it out… at 4 ay-em, on my bed with me. I had to choose whether to push them off the bed, or let them be. I felt so sorry for the poor little girl that I just pulled the pillow over my head, rolled over to face the wall, and went back to sleep.
