ohai, late commint here. Sounds to me like all is well. If they wuz habing a problem, yew wud noes it (hiss snarl bite flying fur…). They is just habbing teh fun. (long ago I moved with two cats into a house that already had two cats. Lots of … hmm … adjustments had to take place. But after a while one of my cats discovered that it wuz really fun to tease one of the other cats by sitting on kitchen chair until other cat passed underneath. Top cat reach down with paw, bop! on top of head, pull paw back up. Bottom cat stops (he was not the brightest bulb on the tree), “hey what was that?”, looks around. Top cat reaches down carefully, bop!!. Bottom cat “hey, what was that?” … this could go on for quite some time, and nobuddy ever got into a fight.)

With kittehs, it’s not so much authority, I think… I read something about someone on a farm, a writer, whose office was in an outbuilding… as they got new kittens, the older cats each in turn voluntarily relocated to the office building to allow “Mom” to look after the kitten from the “new litter”, since after all, we stand in the place of Mom to them permanently, providing food and comfort and safety, although they didn’t actually leave altogether the way animals disperse in the wild… I’ll see if I can find the passage and maybe type that bit in my blog (my bloo linkee name goes to it). I remember finding it absolutely fascinating, and thinking that it explained a lot. Maybe making sure you greet the older ones first could be a way of making sure they don’t feel like they’ve been bumped aside for the “new litter”?
