I had a kitteh with this same problem. It occurs when there really is something serious going on. In his case, it was lymphoma that eventually spread to his brain and caused severe seizures.

Anyone stop to think this might be a result of the flash or a little bit of photoshopping? If you used a masking tool and a little bit of color adjustment, you could easily make any cat on this site look like that. The dark black circle around the eye even suggests it.
If nobody on here has found the origin of this photo, then you don’t know anything about this photo, let alone the cat, so there’s no reason to fret over whether or not this LOL is inappropriate and should be taken down.

there’s a million things that could be wrong with the eye. It could also have been a defect from birth. I seen teh hoomanz wif dems too!
Kitty looks healthy, there’s no swelling/nastiness around the eye, and he’s not squinting, which suggests he’s not in pain and it’s not causing discomfort. But a little disclaimer with the picture to reassure us all would have been nice – assuming anyone even knows.

Just FYI, here’s another cat with the same condition: http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157309. It is possible the cat has iris melanosis, which is different from iris melanoma. I can almost assure you the owner would have taken the cat to the vet with the the change in the eye being this dramatic. Besides, it is possible for cats to function just fine with iris melanosis. Just my two cents’ worth.

Looking at the cat’s body (from the little that you can see) it doesn’t look too thin to me at all.. s/he just has a different shaped face. Everyone’s just a little different, even kittehs too.
I think it’s head shape is of the triangular variety, like some modern siamese. I don’t think it’s because it’s malnorished. It has a bigger problem than that…

i had a kitteh, she was 18 years old when she died. about 2 months before she died she had a stroke or something that robbed her of her balance, one of her eyes dilated all the way open and fixed (looked just like this kitteh’s) we just had to put all of her stuff down on the floor for her. and she would get lost in a house she had lived in for years. i miss my kitteh.
I don’t find this at all funny, that cat has a disease. It’s called conjunctivitis.
My cat’s eye started getting darker as she aged, my regular vet said it probably wasn’t anything and to be on the safe side I took her to a high end specialist.
She’s fine.
It’s bizarre how defensive people get IRL about it, interesting to see it happen online too.
Parts of humans can get harmlessly darker with age, would go to follow that parts of other animals might too.
My kitty has this condition — iris melanosis. It started out with just flecks of brown but now it is completely brown. My vet thinks she’s fine — the dark eye works just as well as the other eye and as long as there isn’t thickening in the iris, she should be ok. Can’t do much about it anyway! Anyway, I recognized it and hoped I could reassure people that the kitty is probably ok.
