(he already filed a police report but declined to press charges.) tehn there’s the matter of the 12-month leese. him iz okay, face a little bruised up an he’s very shaken up. third roommate gotted teh guy calmed down, but i don’t fink he can do very much cawz i haz come to teh conklusion taht this roommate iz unstable. hopefully he gets evikted (him haz been trashing teh place anyway) an my boi not have to get all himz stuff, brake teh leese, and find a new place. *sigh* fanks for letting me vent.

He should request a restraining order. It might not work, but it will be on record. You didn’t say what kind of a room situation it is. If it is college housing, he should report it to the college immediately and request that the roommate (or your son) be moved.

If this wuz a boyfriend giving his girlfriend a “bruised face and shaken up”, or a husband doing it to his wife, we wud not be thinking about apologies and making a truce (I hopeso). This is (from what you say) domestic violence in exactly the same way, and should be treated as such. And along that line, it is probly important for your sun to have some support there. Most colleges have offices where violence can be reported and provide that kind of support.

And he should certainly tell the landlord. Afterall, why should your son move out. It should be the bully moving out. Perhaps the third roommate is of that opinion, too.

Although college students are notoriously often somewhat out of control, NO ONE has a right to beat someone else up. This goes way too far and MUST not be tolerated. The college officials should be told because they may not want him there.

the third roommate was my son’s friend from last year. they were suitemates in the dorm (two dorm rooms sharing a bathroom, this guy was in the other dorm room). the jerkface iz this third roommate’s friend from his old neighborhood. seemed like a good guy at first, smart and on a fancy scholarship, but this year he’s quit his job, only been taking online classes (in name only, apparently not actually doing much) and just sits in the apartment all day eating and playing video games.

az has a law allowing early termination of a lease in cases of domestic violence. whether domestic violence includes roommates who are not related in any way
(it just says, members of a household) is the question. hubby used to do some landlord-tenant law but this was new to him. main thing was he knew where to look it up in the statutes and how to read it. they write them so normal people can’t figure them out
