Please don’t doubt yourself. I got picked on in school too, and it took me a while to realize that the other girls’ behavior said a whole lot more about them than it did about me. It’s hard to ignore them when they won’t let you alone, I know. But if you don’t “rise to the bait” (as my father used to put it), after a while they will conclude that teasing you isn’t fun any more, and they’ll find some other way to feed their ornery little egos. Or they just might outgrow their childish behavior and become your friends, as my onetime tormentors did.
I hope you won’t let it shake your faith in God. I think that He sometimes lets us go through things like this because in the long run the experience makes us stronger. Being a teenager isn’t easy — even the kids who seem to have it all have doubts and fears. Sometimes the ones who cause the trouble are just as unsure of themselves as you are and just pick on others because it makes them feel big. Please remember, “This too shall pass,” and don’t let it get you down.
You can always share with us here on ICHC. Most of us are older and have “been there, done that,” so we do know what it’s like to be a kid.
