Needz innervenshuns
hi all-
I am just hiding down here at the bottom of the posts. I am too upset/sad/angree to even lol at the moment.
Yesterday afternoon my husband was “asked” into his bosses office for a “quick meeting”- well, he was told that he was just “not a good fit” and “not analytical enough” for the job. So his boss is going to fire him on the 20th of September ( I know, that is a Saturday, but nothing else makes sense about this either)
Well, he has been at this company for over 15 years in IT, at the moment, he solves various trouble tickets- he gets all of them solved- so how is he not “analytical enough”?
The whole job has been weird, at the end of the usual 3 month probation for a new job in the company, he was told that his probation is 6 months. Which is up…. Sept. 24th.
He just got back from a two week “vacation” moving gascat into his first apartment and his first time away from home- which is a gut wrenching experience for all of us, and the day he got back, she hit him with this…. What is odd, is that two weeks ago his supervisor (not the manager) gave him a review and told him that he was doing just fine and to keep up the good work. How did he go from great to dead meat in 3 weeks when he was gone for 2 of them?
What really hurts is that we went through 3 months of separation (he started in Oregon in March- we came in June) and it was at our expense- they did not give him any living allowance or help at all, the kids and I packed up a house together, we moved out here which is hard work. And now, two months later, he is being told that he doesn’t “fit in”. He has not has not been given anything in writing, he is not on a performance plan, we can only figure that his Manger extended his probation by another 3 months- without telling him that is what was happening or giving him any written notice.
I wish I could just shake the manager and say “do you realize what HE double hockey sticks you have put my family through for the last 5+ months?” I had to deal with all of the usual house bills and issues while trying to raise two kids by myself for three months. I only got to see my spouse twice in that time (again, our expense) we have had to pack, unpack, untangle all the usual problems of moving… and all so you could fire him in 6 months!!!!! You just don’t know how cruel that his.
Oh and he is not being given any opportuntiy for redemption, nor told exactly what he was doing wrong- he is just out the door- after 15+ years of hard work for this company. We are an “at will” state, so there is absolutely nothing we can do about it.
I am so sick I can hardly eat, I have to take valium so I don’t throw up (which is why I have been asleep…). My spouse is totally despondant about the whole deal. He is over 50, it is a tough job market and there really are no Information technology jobs out there. The kids are being great- fishykitteh is giving us big hugs all the time and telling us not to worry, something will turn up. Gascat is just plain mad about the whole thing.
All of this on top of the fact that we just found out that gascat’s parent plus loan did not go through- we needed to fill out a new form for this year, and because of a past history (all gone now), we don’t qualify on our own, we have to get a cosigner- which is going to be rough with our families… The school also did not update Gascat’s living situation so they only gave him enough for a student living at home- which he is not- that we are having to appeal sepparatly from the plus loan issue. So, gascat is in Colorado, on his own, with no money- at least he got enough to pay tution- but that is it. I am having to pay his rent out of my rather meager savings.
Then our last landlord is accusing us of “wreaking the house” that we left in better shape than we got it- so they are keeping most of our deposit and I am going to have to get a lawyer to get it back….
Life is pretty darn terrible at the moment- oh and I still don’t have a job myself… I hurt so bad…..
It helps to talk to you all and let someone know what is happening here. I feel a little better, guess I had better go get some more valium and go to bed. – I can’t overdo the valium however, I have an interview tomorrow afternoon….

I am very sorry, momcat, this is truly awful. Can’t your husband get some backup from a coach and when he feels less despondent, can he speak to the one manager who gave him a favorable review? This is so horrible, I perfectly understand the need to vent your anger and this is the best place to do it. I wish you all the best for the job interview, which should be today (? these time zones get me all mixed up). I keep my fingers/feelers/paws crossed. Please don’t give up, keep talking to us and don’t bury the anger in yourself, let it out.

I know that all of you already have the ability, the creativity, the will, and the love to get through all of these and any other situations without losing your paddles in the smelly creek of life, but I’m sending you extra doses of love to help.
Oh Momcat! I am so sorry, it is just so unfair for you to have turned your lives upside down with the hope of a steady new position in Oregon only to have it yanked out from under you for no apparent reason. I am also now angry with the company and if I knew who they were I’d boycott their products or services and encourage my friends to do the same. I also think that after you have appealed the dismissal through whatever company channels are available, you should check with the EEOC, for him to be released so soon after a favorable review sounds capricious, and not getting any warning is just cruel. Perhaps there’s an age discrimination angle that could provide some monetary relief. I really hate when bad things happen to good people!

I has had a terribul ’sperience long ago wif a job like that… great review, then terribul review… sometimes there is just nothing you can do about it. It’s usually office politics. (PLEH) Best thing would be to try and get a referral from teh person who gave the good review, and start trying to move on and find something better. Good luck with the interview today, try to be postive during teh interview! And plz let us know how it goes!

i am so sorry to hear of this. wish i could solve it- i can give only lil advice re the deposit- we have had very good results in small claims court with this sort of thing in the past , but this might not work for you since yr not there. Mebee you can has a friend there to appear for you? i dunno. Not helpful prolly.

I know the pain of that moving separation myself… mine went for 14 months, and I was the one packing up the house by myself, The Lovely Mrs Woozled & the Ratbag (5 then, 21 now) having moved in with her dad to get the Ratbag in a decent kindergarten (at the time we lived in one of the worst school districts in the country) & get somewhat established 400 miles away.
Your family is in my thoughts/prayers – you’ll pull through this in time.

momcat, I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. Does your husband’s company have an employee grievance committee or something like that? He should try to present his case, it seems extremely odd to me that the first step his boss would take is to fire him, not even a warning that he needed to improve? And only a short time after a favorable review? Even if his current job was not the place for him, he’s been with this company for 15 years, couldn’t he return to his previous job? I know that wouldn’t be an ideal situation but at least it would be something. You and your family are in my thoughts & prayers, try to hang in there. Your cheezefriends are here to listen anytime you need to vent. Sometimes it seems that everything goes wrong all at once & talking can help a bit.

oh my gudness, i am so sorry {{{{{{{momcat, momcat hubby, gascat, an fishykitteh}}}}}}} that is all so not fair, and all the bad things happen all at once. when you get over the initial shock of everything, i’m sure you will be able to sort out the actions you need to take and get some or most or hopefully all of this straightened out. your family is in my thoughts and prayers that ways will be opened up for you to move forward, maybe ways you don’t even see right now. the bad times don’t last forever, and you and your family will find a way to pull through this together. i hope it helps to know the cheezfriends are all caring about you and thinking positive thoughts for you.

Thank-you all for your wonderful prayers and love- it really, really helps. We are all trying to keep each other positive and hope that something good comes up. The company (lets just say a major medical/insurance company) is very clever- they stay just inside the law so that there is no way to sue them. He is not union so he has no protection, the internal employee complaint system is a joke-nothing ever happens with them- and human resources refuses to return phone calls…. it is an ugli situation….
I had to take all of my anti-nausa meds this morning and I still hurt- but fishykitteh made some really great peach scones and at least I was able to eat one.. It is pretty much the first thing I have eaten in two days…
Well- it is noon here and my inteview is at 1:30- I have no clue where this school is so I need to google it.
I can make it, I used to be in theater, I can smile and look happy while being all torn up. -wish me luck, school starts next week and the job pool will REALLY dry up!
