Sorry about your team. The USA mens team is pretty weak, at least at the international level, and didn’t qualify this year. Our women’s team qualified for the first time in years, but had a lot of trouble scoring in their matches, and ended up in 8th place. They were ranked 11th going in, so I guess that’s something.

Very different. It’s played on artificial turf, on a field about the size of a football field. Eleven players to a side: 10 field players and a goalkeeper. The ball (hard plastic, about 3 inches diameter) can only be touched by the players stick, except for the keeper. The ball needs to be shot from inside the scoring circle (16 yard radius form the goal) for a goal to score.

It is. My daughter (a keeper on a university team) played in a tournament for club teams back in May, and the games vs mixed teams were rough. Although some of the women were “giving as good as they were getting”.
Hockey has changed a lot iun the last 20 years or so. It is usually still played on grass in secondary school in the USA, although some schools are starting to put in artificial turf. Most universities have turf fields, and turf is required for international play.
