I’m not real sure why this picture did not get flagged as offensive. I posted it elswhere and several catladies who know thier cats are mightily offended.

I know you’re saying the cat’s body language says the cat is not in distress, however, the cat’s face says the child is about to be in distress. The cat seems to be contempalting an exit in 3…2…1… no need to deploy pointy ends, Child will just look clumsy

The cat won’t hurt the child. It would mostly likely try to get up and walk away. However, there is still a possible that the cat could scratch him which would might cause him to hate cats later in life.

I can appreciate your concern for both child and cat; however, I can assure you that child welfare would not intervene. The baby looks healthy, well fed and unbruised. Considering the horrors that we see on a regular basis (and I won’t go into them on a public forum), a cat scratch doesn’t even register. As for the ASPCA, I’m sure they’d tell you a similar tale. While I can’t say that the cat isn’t uncomfortable, I have to point out that its body language (forward ears, undialated pupils, relaxed paws with claws in, etc) indicate that it is not in distress.

Awww. Another slam dunk for Kittehs.

I’ve had many, and never had a problem with them and small kids. At worse, they get up and leave in a huff when the bebeh approaches. Those that stay take on a parental role with human bebehs, and accept all sorts of behavior that my closest cat friend would not accept from me.

Sometimes, you can see their eyes roll, and once or twice, I’ve see a snarl and a warning swipe, but never any contact. They do not accept getting hurt, but are fine getting annoyed. As long as if it is their decision to let bebeh play, and they can get away whenever they want, all is golden.
