If you still have kittehs in bad situations in 6 weeks, I will help you get them out.

We brought HappyCat in on a Friday, then they were closed for the weekend. We went back on Monday, and spent 1 1/2 hours with HappyCat, and loving up the others. I did the same thing on Tuesday. By Wednesday, they told me that I could only touch HappyCat because someone might bite me. OK, so I spent all my time with HappyCat. Can you imagine how hard it was to not to be able to even touch the little kittens that were reaching out to me – that I had loved up the day before?

That brings us to Thursday, when I literally had to beg for his life.
Then, while I was all upset, they told me that it would be better for HappyCat if I didn’t visit him. Here’s the logic…when I’m lovinig up HappyCat, I’m slowing down the employee from cleaning the cages and feeding the other cats. When I slow her down, then SHE doesn’t have time to love up the animals. Therefore, the animals get less love and attention when I’m there. What – you don’t follow their logic?

If someone spent even 10 minutes with each of the 40 animals, that would take over 6 1/2 hours. Yet, they believe that one person on an 8 hour shift can clean, feed, and give the animals all the love that they need.
.
They say that they have a list of people that would come and walk the dogs, but they don’t have anywhere to walk them. Ummm…how about the sidewalk?
.
Their next objection to volunteers is that someone would have to supervise them every minute that they were there. Since the cats are in one building and the dogs are in another – this isn’t possible.
.
I know. It’s all insane. Considering how they did not want me there, I’ll bet that HappyCat would have been on the list, if I wouldn’t have been there on Thursday. Wouldn’t that have been the perfect way to get rid of me? Just get rid of HappyCat.

I’m getting a bad feeling that somewhere there is money being accounted for through creative bookkeeping, and that has something to do with the lack of witnesses… uh, volunteers. NJ is over-run with graft, but I’ve never heard of any kind of shelter turning away volunteers… this just does not make any kind of sense. In the words of Warren Zevon: Send money, guns, and lawyers….
It’s the City of Casa Grande that runs it.
Another reason (they say) they can’t have volunteers, is that they would have to be police volunteers and then get assigned to the shelter.
You would think that since it’s connected with the police, it would be easier for them to screen the volunteers. Sheesh, they have access to almost every bit of personal information we have. Clearly, I don’t have all the pieces to the puzzel yet.
They’re open M-F, 10 AM – 5 PM. How is anyone that works supposed to be able to get in there and adopt a pet?
Maybe dat solbs deh mysteri. Iffen it’s run by the police, Officer Dibble haz a loooong memuri. (Seeriusli, I hates shelters lyke that, I hates ‘em, I hates ‘em forebers! Gollum!) Iffen teh city duzn’t feel it can run teh shelter, it shud gib teh shelter tu sumwun who can.
Well this all sounds like someone has become a ‘hoarder’ by usurping the municipal shelter; serious nutcase involved, possessive and jealous of (probably) her domain.
Get together a viable group of, say, five people. Write a proper proposal with a budget and manning chart, and go before City Council. Present the problem (without accusations or pointing fingers – remember, sick energy is unreasonable and inexhaustible) and then present the solution. There are probably models all over the country that you can use. It would reduce/defuse the amount of unhealthy emotional energy if you could get one or two guys involved like a local vet, a real estate broker who would benefit from a TNR project to deal with a feral cat colony near an apartment complex or something like that.
I’ll be delighted to receive Happy Cat if we can safely get him from there to here (Seattle).

The Humane Society of the Willamette Vallery (Salem, OR) has a huge roster of volunteers…dog walkers, kitten cuddlers, some who mind the store and adoption center and front desk. They work right along with the paid staff. My dog and one of my cats came from there and they’re wonderful. Many local veterinarians volunteer time or offer free or reduced spay/neuter services. It takes a strong community interest in helping animals, but it is absolutely possible! Check out http://www.willamettehumane.org/ for an example of a terrific organization. Sorry none of the above was in lolspeak, but I wanted to get it typed quickly ; >)

exactly what it is you want here? As other people have said, not every comment needs to be funny. Not every comment is going to get a response. And most of us don’t sit here tallying comments like notches on a belt.
We are good people. I don’t know you, but I assume that you are, (or at least have the potential to be) good as well. So I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt, and figure that you are a bit lonely, and a bit needy, and all the comments about us not wanting you, and not liking you, and you not being welcome or funny enough are you projecting your emotions onto us. And that, by and large, is okay, but you really don’t need to do that. Also, it comes off as a bit creepy. Not everyone wants to play with someone who sounds, well, desperate. Truthfully, we want to be funny. We want to have a good time, and support those who are GENUINELY not having a good time. It takes quite a bit of energy to cater to the egos of those simply wanting constant reassurance.
